Question Silver top with FRS rods and pistons?

Thinking of buying a set of FRS rod and pistons to go with my 2.0ltr silver top.

I assume I am right in the fact the silver top and black top 2.0litre are 84.8mm bore? So if I wanted to use the piston/rod package this would be ok providing my engine is in good order and I use new rings?

The Only problem I can forth see is that the cylinder head has a different cc and thus change the compression ratio.

Does anyone have any other stats for me to help work this out.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Mart

not 100% sure but i thought the black top had a different crank so you wont be able to use the pistons and rods for the silver top. might be wrong tho.

From what I have read its the piston and rods that are different but if used in pairs then both are fine in either engine?

It'll be fine.. but.. i've never seen a used zetec block that wasn't worn beyond acceptable tolerances.. Really you'd need a nearly/new block.

So in theory it should be fine.

I have at the moment a set of arias pistons off ian howell which are 87.5mm bore so would need a big rebore and the rods machining or I could sell them and get the above.

what do you recon?

hmmm..

Looking better all the time. The rest of my spec is as follows:

FRST OFAB management
Ian Howell/ Ahmed Bayjoo superchip
2.5bar Cosworth map sensor
IW30 330cc Webber injector's
ERST exhaust manifold modified for Zetec head
2WD Cosworth T3 turbo
130ps inlet manifold with end-feed injector conversion using a modified focus 1.8 fuel rail and FRST fuel regulator and remote ISCV

Mondeo 136ps throttle body

Hopefully be able to run 1 bar+ and see some good results for my MK2 Fiesta

tbh mate if you have already got them pistons you would probs be better off putting them in! the frs pistons and rods are more based on budget builds as they do the job! up to you bud

Yeah I know what you mean but where I stand at the moment I dont know if if I will sleeves to go with the arias stuff as it is such a big bore and it will cost me Ł200 for the machine work.

If I go the FRS route then I can re-hone myself and just build it up as is now.

Decisions decisions

Not wanting to argue etc.. but are you sure they are 87.5, not 86.5? that sounds like a hell of a re-bore and wouldn't leave much meat on the bore

As stated I steered away from this method because the chances of finding a block that hadnt worn too much was rare!

Hope you make sure yours is very low mileage other wise isnt worth it imo.
