Default Gas usage

We've just got a gas bill through for a quarter and we've used 25322kWh. We have the heating on a lot, and the house is pretty big and old, and detatched.

But does that seem a lot?

How many, cubic meters or kWhs do you use? Or whats the monthly cost?

3 bed semi detached house in very exposed / cold area, heating on all the time in winter. Only thing the gas is used for.

I pay about £40 a month.

Not sure if that helps / compares to what you use?

£753!

Also bear in mind the first £131 is on a rate of 7.5p per kWh, after that is goes to 2.5p. So you can understand why i'm concerned!

It does seem alot. Our last meter reading was about 104units. By the time the company had done their jiggery pokery with it, it turned into about 6000KW.

If you've used 25000kw in a quarter, there MUST be something wrong!

The national average is around 20000kw as far as I know and thats in a year!!! We're high at around 28000kw and I find that shocking.

Is there a chance that you're caught up in this Imperial meter conversion confusion?

check around your meter and boiler with a match, if you blow up, your bill was correct and you had a leak.

We pay a fixed rate of 30sommot a month, and we are currently £53 in credit after this latest bill. The electricity bill on the hand is quite big this time round.....so I went straight up stairs, got hold of the small convection heater that has been burning away for what seems like for ever and threw it in the bin.....evil little thing

Is the kw figure based on a true start and finish reading or is one of them estimated?

I've checked the readings and there correct.

I've checked with the boiler off and no leaks.

Also done a calculation from the bill to now and weve used a further 200 units. what i didnt vheck is if its imperial and they given us a metric reading. surely this must be the case.

The house is very old. what is the meter likely to read in. cubic feet? cubic yards weve still used a lot. but feet doesnt seem enough.

Could be similar to us then.

I've just checked the meter, and its imperial. The bills in metric, what is an imperial meter measured in? Cubic yards? Trying to work out the difference.

Surely that not right though, as that would mean we need to devide our bill by 35 (ish) Obviously not the price, but the usage. That would make us WELL under.

It turned out our meter is infact metric, so the bill looks to be correct.

Thankfully it seems to be going backwards at the moment so we shouldn't use as much in the future

Tell me about it, think there must be a problem with the boiler or something.

Our last gas bill for 96 days was £480 in a 3 year old house and
we are out Mon-Fri from 7.30-6.00 even when we are here the heating is used
a max of 4hrs a day.
They increased the cost of gas here by about 30% but have now reduced
it back again.
