i couldnt make my journey to work monday (SNOW) + im being docked pay!
what are the legal reasons on this? i work for royal mail and could not make the 8 mile drive to work on monday morning due to the bad snow, and my nearest office is still 3 miles away!
i got a letter saying i have some options-
lose a days pay
work my day off to cover 8 hours
lose a days work leave
this is very out of order in my eyes, it was due to 2 foot nearly of snow where i live for gods sake!

I dont see a problem with it tbh........
You havent earnt that company any money but you still want to be paid.
What if you owned a business and one of the guys didnt turn into work......would you still pay them???
I wouldnt and i dont.....

no your works problem you could not turn up for work...
at the end of the day you did no work and as such you have not earned the pay for doing work so completely fair.
at the end of the day they are asking you do you want to loose 8 hrs, work your day off or use a days holiday, they could of just said tough you didnt turn up so loose 8 hrs pay.

Technically taking the day off gets registered as a "No show", unless the company specifies you did not need to go in. Did you call work and ask if you still needed to go in or turn up and get sent home?

same here
can't turn up for work, we can't use you, we can't use the vehicle, can't use the phone, can't make the deliveries, you either take it as unpaid leave or as a holiday
no other options
on the other hand, there were drivers who turned up to work, only to discover that the places they were going were inacsessable, so they got paid as they were there but the work wasn't able to be done through no fault of their own

2 foot snow! Where the fuck were you? It was only 12" at most in the SE
IMO you should of made an effort, even if you rocked up late. Just whack it on your holiday and do some OT to claim it back.
EDIT : You work for Royal Mail. Do what they normally do just call the Union and go on strike.

i cant see u standing a chance in this situation unless EVERYBODY failed to turn up by some crazy turn of events
lots of people saying they cant make it to work, few of my neighbours have done this week, and yet every day they have been 'stuck', iv been in n out to appointments and interviews, and most importantly to the park to go sledging today

i think they are being perfectly fair tbh, i had the day off today, as I use the cossie daily, which doesnt work very well when there is snow involved, so took the day as holiday

What was you told when you rang your office? If you told them it was impossible for you to make it and then was told "Not to bother" then you made no effort to go in.
If you said "I will come in" and they said "Not to bother" they told you to not work, so IMO have to pay you.

You all need to take it up with your companies HR department as soon as you can.
Every company will have its own policy on pay when youre unable to attend work due to extreme weather conditions.

You need to read your contract or see your HR dept.

how is that unfair? why hsould you get paid for not attending work? They're giving you the option to work it back etc.. so as not to get lesser wages.
I have WALKED in the deep snow to work once, 4 miles, I was an hour late but I still went.

same with a guy who came in the other day expecting a route, someone forgot, he was told to go home, i made sure he got confermation that he was getting paid
same with a guy who turned up 2 weeks ago, same thing, forgot that he was due to come in, got told to go home by someone who wasn't actually able to send him home, he got a days holiday, currently under investigation
even if you are agency, you turn up you get paid
if you don't turn up however, then that's a whole diferent kettle of fish

im a electrically engineer, i live in kent, one of the worst affected areas and my first 2 jobs on monday was harwich and clacton in essex, i know the conditions werent great but i managed to cover about 200 miles that day, were other people said they couldnt make it in, although some may have been genuine i think the majority of people thought bollocks il take the day off, to be honest i dont think youv got a leg to stand on with pay unless your managers told you not to turn up for work.

at long last dojj speaks some sence lol,
i was in same situation , i work for parcel force (part of royal mail ) went in but were told to wait for a decision to be made , was sent home at 11 , to be fair we werent willin to go out as thought it was too dangerous to drive large vans on small side roads in those conditions , but we were still there n waited for them to send us home as we would have done our hours if theyd have said we couldnt go but had to still be there
half day , full pay , woooohooo
