Default any merc mechanics in the house? re a class semi auto

ok i believe these are prone to probs, its not selecting gears, i have been told that if i remove the passenger wing the acs pump is there and on the pump is a motor and to check the brushes on that, make nay sence?

secondly i believe basicly the car has a manual gearbox, and a manual norma gearshift etc its just the clucth thats auto?

so presumably if i can find a scrapper i could reasonably easy do a manual conversion?

what about wiring ie is there any sensors that would stop the car from starting etc?

i would prever to convert as i bet it would be worth more as a manual but if its a quick easy fix to fix the auto then so be it

any know it alls advise? as im just about to buy the car its a diesel 1999 for £675 which i spose is worth a gamble

in your title it says semi auto and you say it has gearbox problems, i assumed you might need to take the box out, if you don't then great if you do then the engine and box have to come out in one lump.
