Default Reading Fault Codes

Hi, mentioned the other day my Dads Focus TDCi has developed a high idlespeed ( circa 900 rpm from the usual 750 )

I cant find an airleak on the intake side which was my first guess

Can you read error codes from the ecu through the dash display?

Just wondered if its chucking any out before it goes off for a £70 per hour diagnostic at Ford
