Default How likely that my block may be cracked??

Hi people,

Ok, heres my problem. Went to get my cossie up and running again yesterday so went to refill the cooling system up again and basically it all ended up pissing out on the deck.

After having a look I found one of the core plugs that sit below the turbo had popped out.

I drained the cooling system when I laid it up as I knew it would be cold (was only running water due to not having any antifreeze at the time of getting it running again and just forgot to drain and refill with the good stuff!) but there must have been a bit left in the block and pushed a core plug out.

I know it was my own stupid fault and I certainly wont be making that mistake again.

Thing is I'm just wondering how susceptable these blocks are to cracking when the coolant freezes as what with everything going on at the moment, I really cant be arsed with rebuilding my engine with a new block at the mo and would rather try and put a new plug in.

Your views are much appreciated!

Gary.

I'd say you will be OK. Replace the core plug and run it up to find out. Check all the other core plugs also.

Cheers for replies people.

Gonna try and put a new plug in and get it running.

Hopefully it will be ok and I'll be able to use it for my dads funeral as I know he loved the car and I think it would be nice to use it for that.

Heres hoping

The core plugs serve a useful purpose considering they are not there for that reason!!
As said very likley to be ok, but have a good look at the other core plugs as may have moved them slightly ?

Sad news, Gary you should be able to put the old plug back in with a bit of sealer to get you out of trouble, if you get a new plug measure it with verniers & compare it to the old one, i've seen people having a nightmare trying to fit a plug thats .2 of a mm to big.

RIP Del.

Cheers for your advice and kind comments everyone, much appreciated.

I've ordered the plugs from Ford's so should be here tomorrow and one of my mates is gonna do it at his work for me as I dont really have the time to mess about with it at the minute.

Bloody cossies! Never a dull moment!
