You got another one Simon!?
dont fook about then, lets see some pictures!
I had my 4x4 Saph for 2 years (bought it from Racey on here)
spent ages finding a good one, and hers certainly was!
loved it, and then a mate of mine offered me money for it,
and i thought
'ive had 2 almost problem free years of owning a Cossie like i always wanted, so best get rid now so i can remember it as being a Great car'.. which it was!!
Sadly, the guy i sold it to used it as a daily runner, and didnt really maintain it... left it out in all weathers, bumped it into things, and now someone has tried to steal it,, so the door and bonnet are fooked sorry Racey, but it Wasn't me.

i broke my last cossie over a year ago now after a full engine rebuild that lasted 4k miles and died at ava and had a sub 900kg 350hp ibiza that was insanely fast. sold that and bought the 350hp leon cupra r which imo is a better all round car than most cossies.
But yep its up for sale as i want another cossie

had saph cossies since i was 25 (now30) finally got an escos last year , rebuilt the engine to 450bhp . all is great in my world .
wanted 1 since i was a 15 year old kid . thats where my passion comes from .
yes there getting old , & not up to speed of modern stuff , but after working on modern stuff all day , i have no enthusiam for them and they just dont press my buttons .
i have a few different cars & fast bikes , so the escos doesnt get used everyday so luckly i dont get bored of driving it .

I loved my Saff Cossies,i wasnt arsed raping them round the streets, bought the escos and y know what I could always find a reason not to drive it,ie putting miles on it ,devaluing it etc, and I couldnt get away with it from day 1 realy.I started to realise I didnt like having a car tucked away for 9 months a year so i sold it and bought an identical car to this.....
and I will never look back now, fully loaded SMG spec,if your heads not in it will its time to move on,pointless having an escort cause you like everyone looking at you in traffic(you all know the feeling LOL).
Ill still be hitting all the shows this year cause I think Cossies are mint, but as for owning one again...I dont think so

Ive had my saph for just over a year and its now for sale, its been good to me and never let me down to the point i couldnt drive it but it is only running standard power.
the reason im selling is i need smething that is more suited as a daily driver so im getting an M3 with the intention of getting another cossie when i can afford to run 2 cars.
Everytime i drive it i think why am i selling i really dont want to, my mates are getting sick of me saying i dont want to sell it lol i think the M3 s going to dissapoint me big style tbh even though it is faster better etc

if you respect a cossie for what it is and have a bit of mechanical knowledge they are good cars the problem is they are so tuneable and ppl chase big numbers and then the unreliability starts i will probably never part with my 2wd and as for my 4x4 20'000 miles in a year and still goin strong

Well, I had two castaphrophic engine failures (9.9 on the richter scale) after having my car "managed" by Engine Advantages, I got shafted big time and then basically lost my confidence! Even after I had a proper new engine built by Harvey Gibbs which truly was excellent, I was still traumatised by the sound of conrods getting fresh air and bits of block landing on my camcover and battery tray and bouncing under the transmission tunnel. It's a sound I will never forget and never want to hear again....so I sold my car to a rich Irish millionaire for an amount I simply could not refuse and bought a Porche 996 Turbo which you have seen on my drive Wil.
So thats why I personally got out of Cosworths!! I now have a 500bhp supercar that does 190mph (out of the box) that does not break or needed 30 grand spent on it to get it to do 190mph. Good reason??

Reliable proper POWER.

Will - you know my thoughts mate. Despite my RST not being OTR, and just a project car as such, the best thing I did was take my mates advice and buy a fast stanard car.
Got my Scoob now and it's brilliant, 300bhp, drive it everyday, always starts and plenty of power I've not looked at the RST since lol.
I've always wanted an Escort Cos, but I can't really see me owning one now because there are so many better, faster, newer cars for the same money .
I think my next car will have a RS badge mind, shame it'll probably be prefixed by an Audi one

I'd love another BUT would probs have it a sensible stage 1/2 300bhp at the most to keep it reliable and mint
I have cash in the bank and theres been a few thats been tempting lately but just dont think i could part with the cash for what it is tbh
Loving 55-60 mpg from my bora that looks good drives good and feels solid ..............only thing that gets on my tits is a creaky dashboard occasionaly ............ better than a creaky engine or box though

I've had 3 cossies, a 2wd sapp, a bt esc cos and a "RS500" 3door.
sold the last one a couple of months ago due to housebuilding. Would love another esc cos, but the sparepartsproblem put me of, it's easier to get parts for a ford model T....

And I understand that the M96 turbo engine is good for 650bhp before you have to worry about changing internal components!!
The only thing I miss is the fact that as I accelerate to 190mph, I don't have to keep checking my mirrors for bits of block and smoke and steam. Or worry about my AFR fluctuating, EGT is too hot or an imminent warp core breach captain!
Saying that, cossies have an unforgettable character, which is missing in a german supercar/M3/AUDI RS/Jap Eurobox. And to some, that character is more important than anything!!
So never say never about getting another cossie!!

i think you maybe right mike.my saff gave me so much joy.it was 350 bhpand got beatsed every where, the escort feels slower due to its issues but i WILL sort it. the escorts looks are far better(although i love the saff) but i think i got spoilt by the saff's reliability.used every dayhard and never skipped a beat except usual wear and tear
maybe i should keep the escort at the 450 area it should be.
imo you have to be a true enthusiast to own an cossie nowdays as they are high maintainance and expensive. if i lose the love of them i will get out straight away and head to an old porsche or a muscle car

she loved that car,it was used every day and once i got with her it was maintained as it should be,same as mine.we put a few bits right me and my mate werent happy with but on the whole it was a great car(except the rocker cover, which was nothing to do with me)
was a very clean one too
shame whats happened to it.but we have no control over car once sold do we.

yeah it is a shame. i think my neighbours thought i was fookin nuts when i had it, always polishing it, or makin sure it was all ok. was a proper good one IMO. especially when you look at how much you pay now for the same thing

The problem is that people always think the grass is greener on the other side, and if you push the car to the same limits as the Cossie, you will invariably have the same issues.
I do get confused at people going from a higher power Cossie to a lower powered what-ever, and then bigging up the reliability, when the Cossie would have been just as reliable at the same lower power .
The best thing you can do is NOT chase numbers. 350bhp is more than adequate for a ROAD car and is more than enough to put a smile on anyone's face.

Nail on the head
PLUS when people do work on them, oir build an engine, they CONSTANTLY move the goal posts, never complete it because of this; then can never drive it; and wonder why they get pissed off!!!!

I do plan to get an esc cos in the near future and i'm going to be doing exactly what rainbum said, which is not chase numbers just get it to a reliable decent spec and then STOP!!
350bhp is plenty for the road, yeah there will be faster cars OTR, yeah there will be more reliable ones but they'll all be worth diddly in 5 years where as the cossie should be worth the same *fingers crossed*

A lot of the problems seem to be caused by people "fixing" them themselves.....?

I purchased my cosworth sapphire when it was 18 months old, and owned it for over 15 years. When I sold it to "Budwise" it was still showing 49,000 on the clock and was still mint, albeit with a new NMS Engine producing close to 450bhp, Quaife Box, Quaife Diff, AP Brakes, Pro Alloy Radiator, Intercooler and Pre Cooler......... and that's just mentioning the main parts. It cost me about £20,000 to bring it up to that spec, and I suddenly realize what type of car I could have had after spending all that money on it. Prices were dropping, and I couldn't afford to loose any more or spend any more on it.
So I sold it and bought a BMW E39 M5.............. Fantastic Car, but just didn't have the extreme acceleration of the cosworth, (But about the same as a good stg 3 cossie) so sold it after 18 months (Didn't loose a single penny when I sold it on, so great value for money at the time).
Didn't want to go Japanese...........just too many of them around, So bought the TVR Tuscan (Against lots of peoples advice).
Had it for a year now, same performance as the Cosworth, reliable so far, and nothing really to modify (It's already nearly 400bhp in standard form, and weighs 1100kg). So far only spend a couple of hundred quid on replacing the fuel lines with goodrich items, and shocks and springs at £600 quid. Now it's about as perfect as I can get it.
Not everyones cup of tea, but it's extreme performance (0 - 60 = 3.8 secs, 0 - 100 = 8.3 secs, and tops out at a claimed 180mph) and certainly has the looks.
Miss the Cosworth, but more from a sentimental point of view (after owning a car for 15 years you do get attached),
The BMW M5 ................ You just have to have one at least once in your life, to know what a perfectly balanced and truely refined car should go like.
The TVR.......Big Power Cosworth Performance, with the looks to match it's performance. A real petrol heads car. And against all advice, and getting a bad rap for build quality and unreliability.......... There's nothing a good mechanic can't sort out for not alot of money.
