unlock or unlock the simlock (phonelock that comes up asking for pin?)

If on 3g and you wanna use other sims except o2, you can't, if just unlock the pin code thing, then i dunno, maybe a factory restore through itunes if you have forgotten it?

Or, put the wrong code in 3 times and call o2 and ask for the puk code

Depending on which iphone you have it can be easy or impossible.

2G iphone cannot be unlocked to any network (yet) although it can be jailbroken to use cracked apps.

1G iphone can be unlocked to use any network. Do a google search for the software to do it. (I don't want to breach any forum rules on breaching copyright etc...)
If you need more info, PM me.

If there is a 'simlock' i.e someone has set a numeric password to be entered before the phone can be used...have you tried changing sim? restoring firmware?

BTW, iPhone is not compatable with 3G network...I assume you meant 2G

**EDIT** After some research, it appears that the '3G' phones CAN be unlocked, just ensure your firmware / baseband is compatable with the tool.

Also, by 1G I meant the early first generation Iphones (metal and black backs) and by 2G I meant the latest phones with the plastic backs and GPS built in...

To clarify, the 2G iphone can be unlocked to any network, the 3G can't, as yet!

I have one of the early iphones (8gb silver backing) and that is unlocked to all networks.

Not sure if that counts as 2g or 1g as you put it.

This is how i unlocked a mates 2G iphone and it worked you can now use any simm card. (There is no guarantee with these instructions)

• Downloaded and installed iTunes 8 and backup your iPhone. There are a few files you need to download too. Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop and save all these files in there:

o The Latest version of QuickPwn for Windows: http://www.quickpwn.com
o BL 3.9
o BL 4.6
o The latest iPhone 2G firmware: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056

• Connect your iPhone to your PC and open iTunes. Hold the Shift key and click “Restore” at the same time. When you click SHIFT + RESTORE, a window will pop up asking you to choose your firmware. Select the firmware you downloaded before Step 1. iTunes will then restore your iPhone to 2.2, which may take a while.
• Once iTunes has restored your iPhone to 2.2, launch QuickPwn.
• Make sure your iPhone is connected to your PC and click the blue arrow.
• Click the BROWSE button to locate your iPhone firmware you downloaded before Step 1. Select the firmware. QuickPwn will automatically check and make sure the ipsw (firmware) is correct. Click the blue arrow to go to the next step.
• Now select what you want to do. You HAVE TO install Cydia. Also make sure you check the “Unlock Phone” checkbox. Click the blue arrow to continue.
• You will then be asked to choose your BootLoader files you downloaded before step 1. BL3.9 & BL4.6 Select them and click the blue arrow to continue.
• QuickPwn will ask you to confirm that your iPhone is connected to your computer. Make sure it is and click the blue arrow to continue.
• QuickPwn will now put your iPhone into recovery mode.
• Once it is in recovery mode you will be asked to:

o a) Hold the Home button for 5 seconds,
o b) Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds,
o c) Release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

• Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode, it will start the pwning process.
• Once pwned, QuickPwn will inform you that you successfully completed the pwnage process.
• Your iPhone will then proceed to run BootNeuter, which may take a few minutes, so be patient! Once done, your iPhone will reboot.
• Once rebooted remove Simm Card
• Launch Cydia. It will open at the Home menu. Press the Sections button, and the All Packages button.
• Scroll down to OpenSSH and press it. Install the program.
• You'll see that OpenSSH doesn't install a program icon. You need an icon for OpenSSH, as you can toggle whether it is on or off.
• Launch Cydia. It will open at the Home menu. Press the Sections button, and the All Packages button.
• Scroll down to BossPrefs and press it. Install the program. (This enables you to turn ssh on and off)
• Download Winscp onto your PC: http://winscp.net/eng/index.php

o To connect, on Session tab of WinSCP Login dialog specify:
o IP address of your iPhone/iPod Touch into Host name (You will find the IP address, if you go to your iPhone menu Settings > Wi-Fi and choose the network you are using);
o Enter root into User name;
o alpine or dottie (depends on firmware version) into Password;
o You may need to set longer Server response timeout on Connection tab.

• Download Lockdown (from Rapidshare) http://rapidshare.com/files/54783302...cript.zip.html
• Navigate to: /var/root/Library/ and delete the lockdown folder
• Replace the deleted Lockdown folder with the one you downloaded from Rapidshare
• Make sure the following files under the lockdown folder have these permissions 644

o device_private_key.pem
o data_ark.plist
o device_public_key.pem

• Turn off your iphone and insert simm card
• Turn on and your done

The 3g can be unlocked 2 ways easily.

1 - turbosim, a little circuit that sits between the sim and phone and allows any sim to work. I've been running this method with t-mobile since jsut after the 3g launch. Never had any problems

2 - yellowsn0w, the iphone dev team recently released a software unlock for v2.2 3g phones. Ive been running the last 3 weeks with just a t-mobile sim and it works fine. Needs to be jailbroken, but thats well documented.

... and the 2.2 firmware is pre-activated so you can use itunes without it complaining about having a non-o2 sim.

There is YellowSnow http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/6779...eat-yellowsn0w which is VERY specific on which firmware versions and baseband versions it will work on.

If attempting an unlock on a 3G phone, always ensure the compatability of the baseband / firmware with the tool you are using.
