you don't have to justify it to anybody - you are entitled to it and have been since the day you became unemployed. you can't claim it back though, so should have done it straight away and maybe you would not be in as bad a position as you are now. it's not going to help you now, but it might others that read this.

and you should be proud to be british as at least you have something coming back from the welfare state and have health cover - you would not have anything now in most countries
