Avo are the Cheap n cheerful choice IMHO. Depends what you want from them. If its purely for looks cos you want to drop it in the weeds and cruise then they'll be fine. If you're looking for some trackday action then go for Gaz or if you feel flush go for some Leda's! The build quality is much better with these two.

My brother has just put a set on his FRST. I can't see them staying on the car for long as they are unbeleivably harsh. Koni top adjustables and good quality springs gets my vote everytime

Yup, they are harsh alright. I had a set on my FRST a few years back and sold them on very quickly. The damping rates are dreadful even with it set on minimum. The spring rates they are supplied with are heavy even for a std car running full trim, once its stripped they are way over the top. Obviously you can get lower poundage springs if you want though.

I think you would do better spending more and getting the Koni's. imho on a FRST all fitting coilovers does is give you something to willy wave about in the pub as it sounds good.

My brothers are set to min on the damping and what we though was a small amount of suspension travel was actually the tyres sidewall flexing. It's rock fooking hard . His missus has nick named it "The Spine Re-aligner"

No idea, my Spax kit has stood me good for quite a few years now both on and off track. Never changed it as I've never felt the need. It's held it's own against coilover equipped cars. If it aint broke don't fix it

In that case check them very carefully. The adjusters on the rear seize up, the platforms front and rear seize and check the eye-bushes as I split one on a brand new set.

At that price they will almost certainly need a refurb tho.

Cheaper AVO coilovers are crap. End of. Even new ones will leak, bang knock and clunk and will not last 12 months without the need to be rebuilt or repaired in some way. You are far better off putting some konis and proper springs on it.

Maybe you should rephrase the question such as "will I like them", some do some don't.
Some say they don't like the GAZ shocks that physically break and fall to pieces, there are so many variables to consider.
Any coilover by it's nature is going to be sport orientated, ie bloody hard, but then mushy suspension does not go round corners well.
There is a lot of crap about AVO here, I am sure especially in these money tight times that any supplier of these things that did as described would not be here now, and don't forget if it were not for a certain frenchman that Spax would have gone to the dogs long ago, luckily for it's customers he had every single spring and damper setting re-adjusted and sorted out.

Coilovers generally make a road cars handling worse unless they are custom specced with the correct spring and damper rates for a road car.

Hard suspension = Less Grip
