Default Dangers of the motorway/hard shoulder

http://www.daventrytoday.co.uk/news/...ide.4850461.jp

Just want people to relise and be more careful about the dangers whilst driving espescially on the motorway.

Below are the after-mat pics of what happend to me two weeks ago whilst i was broken down on the M1 and parked on the hard shoulder. All i remember is pulling over, jumping out the car to have a quick look under the bonnet and then jumping back in to ring The AA. Do remember getting through to an AA advisor and thats it everything was blank after that.

About 4 hours later am waking up really really mashed up in Hospital, thinking i how the heck have i ended up here.

Police arrested an Eddie Stobbart driver for dangerous driving but was lucky enough not to be hurt. Dont know what he was thinking but he took me clean out Lucky enough there weren't other casualties.

Am just glad to the Almighty that ive come out without any major injuries or any broken/fractured bits.

Loads of cuts, bruises and stitches are bareable but the whiplash causing the severe pain in me back and neck is unbareable.....

Car was a Focus Estate

So please everyone just be more alert whilst driving

reiss k

p.s if anyone has any suggestions, tips or experience on how to overcome the pain please be in touch

thanks

Ford Focus and HGV collide on M1

07 January 2009

THE entry slip to junction 16 of the M1 southbound was closed for several hours following an accident last night (Tuesday).
Police believe a Ford Focus that had broken down on the hard shoulder was hit by an HGV and pushed into the slip road. The HGV came to rest on its side on a grass bank.

A 24-year-old man from Birmingham who was driving the Ford Focus was taken to Northampton General Hospital with injuries not thought to be serious.

The 47-year-old driver of the HGV, from Staffordshire, was not injured and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He remains in custody and will be interviewed later today (Wednesday).

The incident happened at 10.25pm and the slip road was closed until 2am.
Witnesses are asked to call officers in the Road Policing Unit on 08453 700700 or the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.

Drivers are being urged to drive with caution in Daventry as there are snow flurries in the area. Predictions from the Met Office say the weather is not anticipated to get worse during the day.

just fooking glad your ok mate thats one messy car, i didn't even realize it was an estate at first, i looked at the picci's before having a read, and before i scrolled down a few photo's i thought it was a corsa then seen the focus lights, i gather there was no one else in the car, like steve said that's horrific and quite scary.

i bet even the police and the recovery people have not seen many this bad, it definitely wasn't your time to go.

tbh i never knew how bad it was untill i seen the pics as i never heard/felt any noises, knocks or bangs everything just went blank. The AA tried calling me back at the time as the phone had cut of. Dont know if they'd relised what had happend whilst i was on the phone to them.

And the ironic thing is everytime i/we travel, we'll always have a full car but i was alone for some reason at the time...

Makes you relise we shouldnt take things for granted in life and should appreciate it

not alot too say really just glad there wasn't no kid's in threre, and as for advice mate there isn't much, just alot of rest and try not to take what happened to heart you unfortunately was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, you will stop thinking about it so much evetually, just think that you was lucky to be mostly unscathed and with all your limb's and without a broken back or neck, than dwell on the fact it could of been worse,

and i no it's slightly off topic but think of the insurance pay out, i mean it's not as acceptable when you are seriously injured but considering you will be able to enjoy the money will be a nice thought, and to be honest they will take one look at them pictures in court and the zero's will roll.

and don't feel scared to get back into a car once your well enough and onto a motorway again i wouldn't do it on your own and maybe have someone else drive for you but don't get afraid otherwise you'll never forget and get a fobia from it, like i said really unfortunate but you was just in the wrong place, nothing you could have done to stop it from happening.

such a shame we was on about bad lorry driving a couple of day's ago, there is not alot they can do because like al licences once they have it there is basically nothing stopping them from driving incorrectly

well just hope your on the road to recovery (excuse the pun) mate and your back on your feet as soon as possible

Burnzybubbles: Thanks for the advice budd...

Driving is out the question out the moment more of an excuse to keep the saff and m power tucked away

Am more gutted i cant get back at go karting or training for me 10km run tbh but have relised i need to take time out and recover fully rather than rushing and doing damage in the long run

I do tend to look at trucks in a different way when i see them now

yea your definitely more sensible to make sure you've recovered properly before you make any decisions, and don't forget, allot will be just bruising to bones and muscle, i had abit of a bad bike accident, and i was really unscathed just a couple of mark's, but was like i had been beaten up with a sledge hammer the next day and i couldn't walk myself, so i can reason with the pain your in, just remember you've got that light at the end of the tunnel, they have said your injury's are mostly minor so your recovery will be 100% may take a while for the scar's to fade but i'm sure this time next year you will be like nothing has happened.

and your one lucky bastard any way to have a saff and m power tucked away and carting aswell lol you didn't lay around then, but it can all be picked back up once better i bet half of the racers your with will give you support once back on the track and well just take your 10k run as something to work towards on your way to recovery,

and no prob's for the advice mate, i'm the sort of bloke that likes to think more people you help the more people will help you if i was ever in the situation. oh yea and i can't not help a fellow brummie lol

first off,glad your ok mate.

sadly mate its an all to common thing.
i work nights on the m6 and the amount of accidents like yours are getting more and more.
drivers not paying attention and running over the rumble strip onto the hard shoulder is too often for my liking.
i feel more scared working on the hard shoulder than in lane 3.

chin up mate,least your alive

banhambuilt: Its only after my incident ive relised/took notice how bad and oftern incidents occur on the motorway wouldnt have imagined it was far this common before. Just shows how much difference a split second can make if your not careful.

Burnzybubbles: Thanks again glad theres another brummie helping out

Looks like a very close shave! Good to hear you came out of it fairly well off given the pictures.

I drove back from Hungary last week along autobahn etc and the amount of lorries I saw straddling the hard shoulder was absolutely shocking. Got back into UK and the number of lorries straddling the hard shoulder at times went up! Shocking!

All the best and hope you make a speedy recovery.

Try lots of vodka and beer ? If drunk in enough quantities then should block out the pain......just be carefully of the morning after

What the . Can you PM me some numbers then lol.Joking aside i and probably half the world would think as you are one lucky 4ker.That is proper fooked.I was hit by a bus and squashed into the car in front in an old mk4 escort diesel.I do still suffer with neck and back pains.I am not adviseing you to milk it but if you get as much pain as i think you do going off the pictures DO NOT take any offer untill you are seriously satisfied. You may never recover. My mother took 9 years to settle on a crash and that was out of court because the twat was a barrister. She can not even drive with the window open now, neck locks.I hope you do make a full recovery mate.P.s send me them numbers

Bloody hell mate, glad you survived.
All the best with your recovery aswell.

I know of a chap a few years back who had his 2 young children in the back of his car travelling down a motorway. He pulled onto the hard shoulder after his car ran out of washer fluid and he decided to fill it up with a bottle of water. He got out of the car, picked the bottle out of the boot and walked down the passenger side of the car. He didnt even make it to the front of the car when an HGV hit it killing his children in the rear of the car.
He is like a shadow of his former self as he blames himself for there deaths

2 years ago, I went down the A1 in my transit. It broke down and I rolled onto the hard shoulder. It was mental with all the traffic. I decided to use the starter to get the van onto the grass verge off the hard shoulder. Im not kidding, I just managed to get it on the grass whena ford KA flew pass on the shoulder, I nearly shat meself.
