M3 tuning in the Uk 5-600bhp
yes I know its a Ford forum but you get more sense out of you lot than on a BMW board
How easy is it to get 5-600bhp from a E36 M6 engine, I have seen 1000+bhp abroad, what transmission do you need and what cost approx all in? pistons, turbo, manifold, cooler box and diff?
Anybody in the UK that can do it? and seeing as Martin has fiddled with a few skylines and parts do you think he could turn his hand to german Hmmm

Its not going to be cheap!!
Your going to need custom pistons/rods as well as a very good manifold.
The engine is very well tuned in naturally asperated form and several of the things done (the VANOS for example) is not going to work well in a boosted application.

If the M3 you're thinking of is Red and from turkey. DA motorsport claims 1000BHP. I will point out that it has NEVER made figures anywhere near that on a independent dyno. I guess Turkish horses are weaker than the rest of the worlds

i underatand there are problems with turbo'ing UK car as they are right hand drive and alot of custom parts are needed to fit around things -
in the US you can bolt them on with premade parts as they are left hand drive
not sure what gets in the way, maybe someone can comment
this is for conservative applications tho; as the bolt on kits are normally 7-10psi jobs and not 30psi monsters
if you want massive horse power; you're talking new rods, pistons, head work etc as said above

Lots of shit being spoken on this thread already but not going to bother with it.
Friend of min back in Glasgow spent roughly three million pounds with a Glasgow tuning company and when his engine blew on their dyno he was looking for some uprated parts, contacted Vidar Strand in Norway and the price he was given for a full engine package running silly silly horsepower he nearly cried.
Might be worth a try rather than paying crazy UK prices.

Iirc its the steering column/shaft (cant think of the right word to use) that gets in the way when trying to turbo rhd m3's, obviously theres a way round it but its more expensive for some reason... thats what i found when i was looking to turbo mine

it is the steering column that gets in the way. far as i know you can do 400-450hp on the standard engine. supercharger is probably the easiest way as there is no exhaust manifold to buy. nitrous needs to be direct port because of the shape of the inlet manifold.
the six speed gearbox in the evo's is extremely strong as it is the same box as the supra's as far as i know.

Ok.... just need to clear something up here. I'm having trouble working something out Bazza GTi, you know someone that spent 40k on a Bimma M3 and then spunked £3,000,000 to tune it??!
Is it April 1st already?! Thats the funniest thing I've heard for AGES, properly laughing like fuck!!!
EDIT.... Just seen that AFTER he'd spent his 3 mill, his engine melted and THEN he was going to crack it open and uprate internals.
Cheers,
Grant

The guys at DA Motorsport are knocking out 750+ m3 evo's and 1000+ e36 beemers quite regular, i'm guessing its a fairly good motor....certainly pletty cc's and plenty cylinders to spread it across.

Obviously he never spent 3 million fucking pounds are you cunts that stupid????
My point was that he spent a LOT of money with A Very Average Glasgow tuning company on his straight six 5 series BMW(I never said an M3), which at around 390bhp at wheels(as far as I can remember) shit itself. When he then spoke with VS Motor he was sick at the cost they could have built him a 1000bhp engine for.
Hope that clears it up for you..........

Thorney in MK spring to mind. Their CSL is apparently near 400BHP.
There's various supercahrger kits in the states. Mainly low pressure ones that a re circa 420bhp. I think there are better cars to buy if you want big power though.

Not going into too much detail but i have spent hour upon hour getting info with regards to heavily modding my 540 . So far i have found a worldwide shortage of available off the shelf parts and a shitload of people that know somebody that knows somebody who might have a friend thats done it !!
if you want off the shelf parts try ESS or DINAN but dont expect massive power gains . if on the other hand you have deep pockets you can get anything done .
So far without upgrading any transmission parts or brakes etc etc my quotation prices are up to 12k ! so you can almost garuntee its closer too 15k plus other non engine related items-and fnal tuning/set up .
Considering the gains available for this kind of coinage i think i can safely say tuning either the jap engined cars or even a yb powered project will be a lot cheaper.
yb powered e36 m3 anyone?

There is a company called a-tech, i think based in Kent, that turbo/super charge bmw's and do all manor of things. Mainly E30's but i would be confident that they could turn their hands to an E36 or at least advise as i've seen E34/E28's come from their. Website appears to be down atm but worth checking out when it is online again.
