last VR6 Golf I had was a last of the line Hi Line edition, 98, a lovely engine, nice seats and aircon, but sponge like handling, brakes fade after a couple of laps, however its a nice cruiser, its just not a hot hatch.
Corrado VR6 different all together to drive than the Golf, but still nose heavy and feels old.

im a motor trader so had quiet alot of fast cars in the pass couple of years, bmw's nice but heavy and unless you get a good one they do have alot of over heatin probs and electrics.
vr6's are great love the sound but again heavy and dont really like going round corners.
Now i have a sapphire cosworth for my bit of fun sideways donuts you no but i have a civic vti as a daily driver revs to nearly 9000 vtec kicks in at 5500 like a turbo and with abit of noz she good for over 200bhp, i no people dont like jap motors but i cant knock it, drive it like a twat all day everday and she has wanted anything just more canning o and it goes round corners like its on rails.
If your set on german then i dont think anyone will change your mind smooth good lookin and a good following. just get one thats been looked after not the first one you see

post 95 VR6 with 0bd II ecu DO make more power than the earlier 0BD I as they run more ignition timing.
Here's my mk2 handling pretty well with that old boat anchor VR6 up front. Oh look it hit the apex... Mine's an OBD II with 268 degree cams, C2 motorsport remap, Carbonio cold air kit, tubular manifold 216BHP 192 LB/FT .Peloquin ATB diff and 3.68 final drive (best mod you can do to the VR6, as the 3.3 is far too long, which is why you feel you have to rev them hard as stock to make them do anything)
Vid filmed at the 'ring http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IdVVk5Z1VvM
dyno run as well http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lOicAPzaecY

if you sort suspension out with a koni or eibach matched damper and spring kit for around 300 quid they DO handle well.
everyone instead buys cheap coilovers and slams it and dont change camber etc then wonders why they dont handle!!!

I had a 306 gti6, it was as thirsty as fuck!!
I had a mk4 golf gti turbo, it was slow, even with a remap and a few goodies.
I would recomend a VR6, stil one of my all time favourit cars, i px'd mine for my last cossie, C16 OSY (guy was on here once, jamie parish). Thi was mine

Ive recently sold my MK2 VR6.
I personally wouldn't buy a mk3, they are fairly heavy and you will be dissapointed after stepping out of a cossie. Not to mention that are ugly as hell.
Id go for as dan mentions either a corrado or a MK2 gti conversion to VR6 like i had.
Mine had a nice amount of power, just under 200bhp. Its a totally different drive from the cossie, the cossie delivers that sudden surge of acceleration whilse the VR6 is a constant pull right round from 1000rpm to the redline. because of the V6 torque it just pulls and pulls.
One thing i will say the sound is awesome, but it can trick you into making you think your going faster than you really are.
If your going standard n/a then you really want to change to the gti gearing in the box. as i always felt the VR6 box is lazy and doesnt pick up that quick.
These engines can easily see 350-400 bhp just buy using a turbo, or more commonly with these engines a supercharger. And what is good is this is a reliable 400bhp, the engine is near bullet proof. Stick 400bhp in a cossie and theres always that fear in the back of your mind whens it going to go bang!! as im sure you probably know![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Supercharger kits can be fitted in a day, simply bolt on job and a chip. Have a mate with a corrado, and hes doing about mid 11's on the 1/4mile
Fuel wise the car can be quite economical if you drive cautiously, thanks to the torque you can drive like a taxi driver everywhere in 5th gear, even 20mph![Content](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/content.gif)
But press the loud pedal, which you will do if you have a cone filter then id say it would be a dead heat drinking match with a cossie
So to sum up
MK2 or corrado would be better, but mk3's can look good
And also TURBO or SUPERCHARGING is a must, or you will quickly become disappointed.
(ps i have a VR6 obd2, the better engine for sale, why not buy a mk2 and my engine![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Cheers GVK.
Mk2 vr6s goo for good money if they look anything like above, but decent obdII vr's are getting cheaper. Mine was a 1993, it was decated with a decent exhaust system and a mahoosive air filter, it was economical!! cheap for parts and went like fook!!

Yeh mine had a custom stainless manifold on to a decat magnex and a 57ik&n induction kit. The sound in tunnels made me grin like a kid in a sweet shop

Wouldnt say they go "like fook" tho, i mean they are quick but for me after stepping out of a escort cossie, it did feel a bit lazy.
But yeh good fun and bhp for very little £sss.

Lee (think you posted on the mk2vr6 site?) Tidy mk2 you sold, did well in this economic climate to get £3500 for it!! Nice one.
As most on here are from a Cossie background, a VR6 won't feel fast as it doesn't have the turbo kick of power, not bad for what they are tho.

I've got a VR6 - didnt buy it expecting it to be a fast car but its ok for what it is.
You cant directly compare a cossie and a VR6 - different class of cars arent they?
Highline is just different spec of interior, the equivalent of Fords 'Ghia' - whoppey doo!
I love it when a VR6 thread comes up, always the same replies that their slow and dont handle ha ha

my best mate had a vr6 supercharged, AWESOME sound, not much came close to it noise wise, but as been mentioned loads, handled shit, great in a straight line.
but good god was it thirsty! it made my 400hp cossy seem like a toyota prius on fuel!

Rofl @ hater..read my comments on the VR6 golf......i've also owned a Corrado...albeit briefly, as it just didnt live up to the hype...it barely handles better than the golf upon which it is based. I'll stick to my opinions too

Go for the vr6 mate they great fun if your not worried about fuel costs i had a dragon green polo M4D VG /M842LYY with 2.8 vr6 in it with a few mods and it was supprisingly quick you will have a bit more weight in a golf but i would still buy one just for the noise.

the mk2 is now at an age where rather than people seeing it as an old car, its now a cool retro car. thats the big difference between the mk2 and mk3. mk3s are still in that no mans land area at mo.
As for converting. my mk2 was already done when i got it. it was done professionally buy a company near stansted. £600 to install and wire up which i thought was a bloody good price, and the recipt is only dated last year!!
You can get a mk2 GTI for £500 with T&T easily.
Its the way foward im telling you.
It all depends on your requirements
If you want something special, that will turn heads and have a good resale value (mine sold for £3500 last month, which was cheap) then do a mk2.
If u want cheap fun and are not to bothered about looks, to use and abuse then the mk3.
