being laid off.... an opinion wanted
Hi guys..
You have probably seen in another post that I am being laid off from my job on sunday (In another post I enquired about me pushing my valeting fulltime). Now I am a contractor for Hanson support services and I work alongside the main workforce Corus,to help produce and distribute rail and steel sections to customers worldwide. I get paid half the main workers rate even though I can do the same work and tasks I dont even get their bonus. I was promised a rate change after I could acheive 3 jobs, I am qualified to do 8 different jobs in the mill so I am well over-due the rate by 2.5 years. My teamleader also hasnt been the most brilliant of people to me. I dont really have alot to do with my contracting firm apart from that they pay my wages. All decisions get made from Corus. The decision for lay offs were made through-out the plant that means all contractors to go, including me.
Now here's the fun bit. I am the only person on my shift that can do my job yet they lay me off. I hold a critical role, if I am not here the dept were I work doesnt get filled so I hold an advantage. Now, I have been asked as a contractor being laid -off to train a Corus guy twice my wage my job before I Go.
Am I right to refuse to train the guy up in hope I keep my job??

Whens your leaving date? Now would be a great time to go off sick before the date.
I recon refusing to train him would be a bad move, might not get a reference etc. If you go sick, you cant be there to train him (all in good faith) and come your leaving date, they'll have nobody trained to fill your old position

Well i totally agree with the above, but if its near my last shift who the fuck cares if i train him or not, i wouldnt be there to find out
If your good at your job you will find work mate.
Oh and by the way, what kind of operator can train a guy in a day ??? whatever you do im sure it takes longer than a day to train a guy????
