FAO MADrod and Porkie
Right got a question about your lovely clutch/flywheel combos
Had a shot of my cossie over the weekend - and the clutch is ermmmm "sudden"
Basically its - a multi plate rated to 600lbft + with hydraulic bearing but other peice of interest is the lightened flywheel - looks same flywheel as porkies.
Now the weight of the clutch is fine - biting point is in right place and it locks and releases fine - its just to pull away.... well its a wheelspin everytime! LOL Or it dies - the car has done v little miles and everything aint run/bed in but i dont see it getting much better.
Was wondering how yours felt - experience - I notice rods selling his flywheel - was it the same?
Probably going to try some different ratio of master cylinder to try to increase bite point but the clutch dont feel like it has much give
Cheers for any input of how your getting on

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I had the same type of problem with my hydraulic clutch release and lightwieght flywheel and multi-plate clutch, it didn't have anything to do with any of them bits
It was something to do with were the hole was drilled in the clutch pedal to activate the master cylinder, the hole was either to low or too high (martoon sorted this out so i don't know which way it was), either way it was putting too much pressure too quickly on the master cylinder, hence the "sudden" clutch action, now it is nicer to use, takes ome getting used to though
I'll try and take a picture in a bit...

theres loads of diffent set ups you can use
machined escort cozzy fylwheel will give u more even tick over
than a race slotted thing
with a twin plate ap or any other race clutch its just on or off really
we did the mods to rods car to get it better for his pedel travel
also dont over centre the clutch or it will be scrap you should only have around a inch or little more after the biting point on the pedel or the clutch will be fooked

we already moved the lever of the hole so that you "can" push it down LOL
Pic would be cool its probably different for every length of rod/ master cylinder size/type.

Not really now - was when it went in so moved the point of lever so it was cool - just its on or off - was thinking down sizing the master cylinder bore size slightly might increase the range of the biting point which is on/off just now. Think a heavier flywheel would help but trying to avoid that at this point.
If any of that makes sense - plastic tyres would make it less jerky LOL

The Multiplate clutch in the Skyline drives me fooking nuts and so I was VERY surprised and happy to find the Sierra one is a pleasure to use once you get used to it. You need more revs than normal to pull away than normal because of the flywheel and it takes some getting used to BUT I find it a lovely thing to use now.
Light and predicatble as well as superstrong!
PLEASE don't ask me anything technical though. Looks like Bromster is on the case, if not ask Martin what he has done to mine. He'll tell you for a small fee

Sorry they are abit blurry, i can't move my seats anymore so it was abit of a squeeze
Location hole was moved up on my car I used to stall the car all the time, or light it up and go very sideways Now i can pull away nicely, i was thinking of changing the flywheel but i would miss the way it revs like a motorbike engine

Hi
Seem to have got mine right at last. When first fitted my triple-plate was almost un-drivable. Zoo modded it & made it more progresive & today i drove it for the first time with a heavier flywheel fitted by Mark, the car can now be launched & will improve its already quick accleration times.

errrr sizes - fooked if i know LOL
Fulcrum on the release bearing - 44mm rings a bell on a quatermaster centre push jobbie - has been shimmed to spec.
clutch is a tilton twin plate unsprung i think
master cylinder is also tilton - size recommended by distributer - one of their largest i think. But dont know bore off top of head.....hence think maybe too big as the actual bite action seems over such a small part of the clutch movement. Everything else operationally is good - weight and travel, actual point of bite on pedal travel etc.
So Wes's works with practice, porkies works with practice, Rods worked but for total comfort on launching went heavier on the flywheel. There is light at end of tunnel - thats all i wanted to check - back to fiddling
cheers
