Default engine builders ,need your help !!! arrgh

so i recently pulled my engine apart , ready for its rebuild ,

i then decided to keep the standard pistons and stay standard comp , but as im going bigger cams im going to need valve cut outs ,

my problem is that i dont know how to work out how deep they need to be ,

my blocks already stripped , so i dont know piston to block face height etc ,

so what measurements and where do i need to take them , to work out correctly the depth i need for the pistons ,

im going bd 14s in the head ,

as far as im aware , its standard comp , the blocks not been decked and the heads standard thickness , poss a few thou less may of had one skim ,

so can anyone help as i need to get these out to jems for machining ,

also whats the valve angle ?? in relation to the angle the cuts need to be ,

anyone please

from memory amac who built my pinto put cut outs in due to the exhaust valves only been 30 thou away at full lift, think they recommended 70 thou clearence, you really need to consider a propper engineering workshop to do this for you, i have already gave you their number!

also the only way to measure it properly is to build it up and use the proper equipment (plasticene!)

i recon jems will know what there doing lol

its not like they cant do it they built craig rainers mk2 and allot of other realy nice stuff

beef you will need an old head gasket to do it along with the cams you have now then calculate the difference in lift on a 14 to know what you need to know but seen as john is doing them just give him a ring and ask how he wants you to do things

he may just say send them and they shal be done

yeah he knows what hes doing jack , but hes not psycic mate ,

he told lee that if i work out what i need out of them he will do it ,

if i sent them down there and said ohh just pocket them he'd fucking laff at me ,

i may just hold off a cpl weeks , buy the cams and then do it ,

as im sure not everyones bd 14 is the same spec ,

thansk for your input folks ,

lee, where does beefy say he is using jems in his original post that I answered?? I'm not a mind reader!!

I was meaning a propper machine shop as in a "competition engine builder" that can modify an engine not just someone that can recondition an existing one

The reason I suggested amac engineering to beefy is they local to him , not half a days drive away..

I missed that bit lee, just thought he needed someone to do the measuring for him local!

deffo didn't mean anything against jems I presumed he was going to try and work out the valve cutouts himself..
