cheap car insurance glitch??
#82
Anybody know how long http://www.askmid.com takes to update? paid the insurance earlier but it's listed as uninsured.
there was a thread on here not long ago, some people on were covered, yet their car was not on the database.

Well, latest is that I got pulled over last night in the Escort... because it came up as un-insured.
Not too fussed, only got a producer, so I'll take my printed insurance schedule to the local substation so they can take down the policy details.
Cheers,
Grant

Nah not kidding... I put it down to the fact I paid the wonga at 18.30, it said I was insured from 19.30 and I got pulled over on my way home at about 1am. I guess it wouldn't have updated until later in the day when someone processed my policy details??
Although, the thought "those eCar bastards" did go through my head when he said it was showing as an uninsured vehicle.
Cheers,
Grant

Really surprised no one has been contacted to cancel their new policies.
Reading around online, E Car seem to get mixed reviews, but do appear to be legit properly registered insurers.
Odd.
Really want to take a policy out with them, but not risking it on a higher value car till you guys get all sorted.
Ebit and RS Grant - have you emailed or called them yet about this? Keep us updated please.

Si B, I've not contacted them yet... going to give them until Saturday to get policy details out to me (I have the printed copy after I got the payment confirmation online). If I've not got it, then Monday morning I'll be on the phone/e-mail to them to try and chase things up... will definitely keep you all updated on what happens.

Thanking you ta!
Have you done the www.askmid.com thing at all? Apparently that is what the Police database matches, so if you're on there, you should be ok on the road.
Ebit's car wasn't on there when he last checked.
My Evo and my brother's car (insured elsewhere with well known / respected companies) are both on there ok.

"R5GDF is NOT on the Motor Insurance Database today"
But it does say that they have 7 days to get the details to the Motor Insurance Database... and its been just over a day since I took the policy out, so the hope is that it'll be sorted in next few days.

I got a quote from an insurance company. In short the guy on the phone:
a) gave me a false name
b) I told him about accidents, which he listed but still gave me full no claims (all on his paperwork)
c) lied and said I COULD switch from full payment to monthly if I called back with my bank details in the next few days.
So a couple of days later I called back and , was told I had to restart the policy in order to switch to monthly, then they came back an said they couldn't do that deal as there had been a mistake.
I replied " I think you will honour that deal as firstly your representative lied about his name, I have all the paperwork in my hand with the details as I gave them to him, and you have a recording of the call including the bit where he told me I CAN just switch to monthly repayments".
I was told i would get a call back once they had listened to the conversation and an hour later they call to say that they WOULD honour the price!!!!
needless to say the renewal quote was HUGE the following year lol!!!
A similar case a few years back with a mate who was 17 at the time. He got a quote for 400 quid fully comp - most quotes were 2k!!! ALL details given correctly via phone call, and they sent the paperwork out, then called a week later to try and retract it, his old man had a few words and they honoured it.
BUT as it is internet based, like tescos a few years back where (iirc) they advertised flat screen tv's for something like 10 quid, loads ordered them, but they refused to honour as it was a technical error.
Be interest to see the outcome of it all!!

I would not bank on the buying in good faith idea.
If your other quotes are 2k+ then you get one and buy it at 180 odd, I'm sorry but the alarm bells should be ringing. And a court will see it as the same.
For example somebody offers me a brand new (stolen) car for £500. I get tugged by the police and tell them I paid £500 for it. What do you think will happen?
There is a chance court will find in your favour, but for me the risk would be too great to take on a policy like this.

if you have all the relevant papers for the car and bought it from a company id say you would be fine, same goes with the insurance they might cancel it yes but there is no way anybody will be getting done for anything
#103
I think there is a good chance you will be ok. However I am cautious of what view a court would take. You would expect them to think along the lines that the company should of informed you immediatly, but knowing how random they could decide anything

id be on the phone asking for a full refund, unless they have found out about it circulating forums etc then it makes it obvious you know about it but are trying it anyway
still think a refund will be in order as they will be making a large profit?! unless thats there plan all along... credit crunch and all

My update is as follows:
Reason that my insurance wasn't showing on www.askmid.com was that eCar had used the original S-registration of the car on my documents. When I checked that reg, it WAS on the database.
Took my documents down to local cop shop, with the registration document for the S-reg on it, but with the DVLA stamp to prove that the car was assigned the R5 GDF plate on it. The new MOT and my tax disc. The guy behind the desk said that he was happy that I was insured, but to wait until I had the documents come through the post for the private registration and then bring it down and he'll fill in the relevant form to deal with my producer. He also said that if I got a call or a visit from the Police dept that had pulled me over (different force) then to point them in his direction and he would deal with them as well.
Cheers,
Grant

Dont say that....... the documents dont look mega professional buddy, lol, they're sitting beside me and the more I look at it, the more I can imagine some spotty oink banging out 180quid policies on a Windows 95 powered IBM in between Blue Peter and Byker Grove.
