No MMS
Hard to text with due to lack of physical buttons
When the battery goes flat, it wont reconnect to the phone network without being plugged into a laptop
Battery life is rubbish
Very cool and trendy, and loads of features, and the net stuff is quite good
(I still prefer my HTC though as for typing on an i phone it takes up half the screen for the keyboard and you can no longer see the page)
The satnav / mapping stuff is very good too, the zooming in and out is really slick, and the aerial view is cool too.
So my opinion is:
As a serious phone, no
As a lifestyle accessory, yes

So I take it nobody has looking in the App store, as there IS an MMS app for free now. So that pisses on the bonfire of those people who just jump on the no MMS bandwagon. No need to jailbreak your phone for it either.
Mega Pixel isn't the only thinng that makes a picture look good. I can put pics from my iPhone (2mp) and I also have a 5mp LG, and to be fair there is not a lot in them.
Also amazes me people say it is not a good "phone". I press who I want to ring, it calls them, and I can hear them fine?

Not correct i can
Hard to text with due to lack of physical buttons
Have no problems using the keyboard find it quicker than txting on a normal phone.
When the battery goes flat, it wont reconnect to the phone network without being plugged into a laptop
Never had this problem (had the phone for a year and a half
Battery life is rubbish
Last at least 24 hours with regular calls and using the ipod for most of the day.
Very cool and trendy, and loads of features, and the net stuff is quite good
(I still prefer my HTC though as for typing on an i phone it takes up half the screen for the keyboard and you can no longer see the page)

Had endless problems with new Nokia's as they try to cram in so much stuff, this causes crashes and the phone to be slow navigating through menu's.
With the app store there are endless options to customise and improve your phone on a daily basis.

I have an Iphone 3g and a Nokia N95 8gb, and my gf has a Nokia N96, and rather than being a fanboy who cant see past there own phone, I would rate the iphone and N95 8Gb as being equal. They both do things the other cant.
The N96 is worse than both tho. It has lots of functions, but struggles with them all, including phoning and texting.

Summary:
Plus points:
1) Easy to use great apps
2) Looks nice and comes with built in IPod
3) Internet and you tube everywhere
Down sides:
1) Average camera / Cant take film unless you download an app
CANT SEND PICTURE MESSAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) NO FLASH PLUGGING
3) OverpriceD contacts on O2 plus 18 months
4) O2 customer service snobby because they have the iphone (maybe for a while longer)
5) The speaker is SHITE
If i could go back i wouldn’t bother , its a nice bit of kit but overpriced like most apple Stuff...

As for battery life being shit - mine last two days and is one 24/7. My Nokia N73 lasted 3 days, sometimes 3 and a half, and was also on 24/7. However I use my iphone a LOT more than I did my Nokia. Also worth noting, when I installed Nokia Email (push email service downloadable to phone from Nokia) the batter life on my N73 dropped to about a DAY....
Texting - I find it much easier. QWERTY layout keyboard for a start - far more ergonomic to zip around as opposed to pressing a number button several times to get a certain letter. Predictive text, error correction and spelling mistakes also make it a breeze to type fast, in texts, emails and internet.
MMS - yes, iPhones CAN do MMS. It's not a native Apple app and not included in the phones standard OS, but mine can send and recieve pictures, music, documents, etc etc. I only use it for pictures cos I reckon sending a music file over the cell net would take forever, but it supports music, video, office docs, pics, text....
I'll admit the bluetooth support is rubbish - no AD2P, so it's purely for connecting to a headset or car kit (and again, contrary to popular belief, it DOES connect to the Parrot in car kits - I've had mine connected to three in the past), but I've had mine since Sept last year and only a couple times have I thought "bugger it, really want to send something via bluetooth"
Same goes for not being able to forward SMS messages (the work around is, have the text sent as an MMS, and forward that way - problem being the design of SMS in the OS is to mimic iChat (like MSN) so keeps all texts between yourself and another person in a "chat view" and no seperate inbox/sent/etc). Again, only about 4 or 5 times have I thought, "damn, I'd like to forward that"
It has it's flaws, as do all phones, and it has it's plus's. For me, the plus's outweigh the flaws, hence why I still have it.
The touchscreen is a breeze to use, the menu's, set up and OS is so easy to use, and the web browser and HTML-rich email is just spot on - which is the main reason I got it.
As a serious phone? Well whats a "serious" phone? Call people and recieve calls? Yes it does that. Send and recieve SMS? Does that too.... What else is serious in a phone?
As a PDA? Sure there are better ones. The iPhone was never meant to be a PDA tho. It was meant to be a pocket Mac; a handheld internet communication device, that they wanted to be able to access the www over cellular networks. The plus side to that is it can make and recieve calls too. Bonus
I'll agree the speaker is too quiet, but it still baffles me why people are so obsessed with this. Sure, now and again it's fun to share a youtube clip, or a vid you put on the phone, or say "have you heard this tune (play a clip song)" but people that use the speaker output on a phone to listen to music? FFS, get headphones! No one wants to hear your shit music anyway
