Depends on where you mean. But the Evo is far better chassis-wise, which means it would be faster on track and in most of the situations they were both designed for.

Sorry but as controversial as I know it is, its true.

my current evo 7 is running the same hp as my old escort cossie did and as C&B said above, the evo would win hands down.... No where near as laggy, more stable, handles like nothing else (nothing that big anyway!).....

I'm not sure of the weight of an EsCos, but I know the Evo is quite heavy, due to all the stiffening in the chassis and braces everywhere. So, the EsCos might gain a little in straight line speed, but it would be marginal and the Evo would easily make that up on the bends.

I hate big decisions.

It wont be used on the track, just daily driving and it will get a bit of a thrash at weekends.

surely it depends on the driver , the evo would feel safer and a crap driver could probably go faster in the evo, the escort cossie is a drivers car

One thing to consider is depreciation and running costs. A good Escort will have almost negliable depreciation and the amount of second hand parts available would make running costs ALOT cheaper to run than you think...

BUT get a scabby or poorly modded Escort or Evo and they will both be money pits...

like i said the other day, u need a drive of one yourself (if not already), that will make your mind up from the driving point of view, - but be warned,,, evo bits are much more expensive, like porkie says, buy a cheap one and you could end up with a few K bill for just getting it right.
