Exclamation Huge cheap turbos (plus a crazy 9.9 sec Maltese Escort!)

Anyone ever tried the likes of these....... on a YB in particular?

I photographed a YB Mk1 Escort in Malta that was running an equally huge mofo...... (T76 IIRC) ....on a standard bottom end too!
It put out 600+BHP and did a 9.9 sec quarter in full road trim

The T3 Super T70 turbo is suited for large displacement/horsepower applications. 4 cylinder Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, and 6 & 8 cylinder seeking up to 650. This combination of AR (Hot/Cold) results in a quick spooling turbo for the larger displacement motors. This turbo has a cast boss for a pressure signal if you wanted to add one.

It worked though! 9.9 sec quarter

The Maltese do like to think out the box and not conform with traditional tuning...... for example that car and many others were running English axles with Fiat 131 shafts!
I'm sure the very notion of such an idea would be laughed at by many in the UK, but in Malta they were happy to do hugely aggressive launches on slicks with that spec!

How long does the standard bottom end last at 600bhp though, i'd guess minutes at most!

I saw it being driven on the road too that night, and it with no mercy! Gareth the CF writer was a passenger in it, and I'm sure had the stained underwear to prove how quick it was too....

They'd had it in a good while with no problems!
They also said it was coming out soon though but only as they were going to replace it with a huge specced motor with low 8 sec runs in mind!

There's a HUGE difference between a proper Turbonetics turbo (as shown on the red car) and some cheap £200 chinese piece of shit on ebay

Stavros used to bang on about these XS turbos being as good as the real deal...shame he's not here to defend himself but I always thought they were scrap anyway.

Think that the XS power ones might be made in Brazil (where all good turbos seem to be made) rather than China. The Honda boys from the pond seem to use them alot and have had some great results.
