got an escort rs turbo cabriolet ,already replaced the starter, alternator, battery, heat shield for the starter,i know the cvh is totally different for maintence as parts are cheap compared to the yb,what you said about the turbo kick is exact same as i think my rs is only running 10psi ss exhaust pippercross filter which imo isn't good as i probaly get more heat, the last owner said it had a stage 3 hybrid turbo which i dont know if it has or not and would presume that does nothing at what psi i run, even know the bmw 540i i had was faster the way the turbo comes in on an rs turbo is great, that feeling of boost coming on in a sapp(only cosworth i've been in)i think you could get the grumpiest man going and he would smile,im not to sure how my insurancewould be,when i was going to buy a genuine rs turbo i rang my insurance to put it on the database and they said it was group 15 or 16 and said he would check with his teamleader came back and said it would be fine, you have opened my eyes alot no one can give you better advice than some one that owns 1,there's a sapphire cosworth nr me which is L reg is that rare

early evo's, impreza's, pulsars.
All of which, in my experience, arn't as reliable (a few of my mates have the above, all of theres have been off the road quite alot, mines never had a problem)
and then you look at the fact that cosworth are very unlikely to loose money.
Plus, for me anyway, they give me a special feeling when i drive them.
Something else just feels like a fast car, a cosworth feels like something special
The only other thing i was considering was a mk2 escort, but i would of only got a right heap for what i paid for my saff.
EDIT:, also condidered an M3, but the price of parts scared me away, and the fact i cant insure one, for some reason :s

As already mentioned it's not just the insurance, these cars are getting on now and parts when you need them, if your lucky enough to find them arn't cheap.
Also there a saying which coulden't be further from the truth if you going to buy a Cosworth then you should be able to afford it twice.
This has turned out to be true for my Saph.

Team HOTHOT!
Oh so bloody true - The day I bought mine was brilliant, the day I stripped it for parts and sold it off was even better.
Bloody wallet raping machines they are

PS - I was 21 when i bought mine and payed something along the lines of £800 fully comp with 4 years NCB, limited mileage, all mods declaired etc etc - that was with Liverpool Victoria untill they decreed that you had to be 25 to insure it

Seriously....
95% of Sierra or Saphire Cosworths are hanging pieces of shit...despite what their owners and their rose tinted glasses think and when they go wrong they cost money and lots of it...
The badge on the back and the engine in the front mean they command respect for speed and ££££ for it...

i have an RS T at 20, Insurance is 2,989 Fully Comp. All mods decleard and an agreed 500bhp engine spec, Agreed value of 6k,
brought it for 3k and spend over now 6.5k onit, Running costs is about £40ish deppends on fuel price every 3days, thats if i use it in the nights, if i go to work and back which is just under 5miles its a full tank a week but im always out init so its not cheap to run a good spec'ed car, a gearbox or diff on one of them cossies could set u back at around 2.5k

You should be able to buy the car twice.
There really is alot of shit out there. I'd not really want to pay less than £6k for one, so bank on needing £12k.

My first cossie cost me £3400 to buy, thrashed it for about 2 years nothing went wrong apart from needing a new fuel tank,my cosworth powered mk1 escort did 4 trackdays loads of weekend abuse it never broke!
Fingers crossed my new one will be ok aswell so i dont think its strictly true what some of you are saying, but if it does go wrong im sure it will be expensive to fix

I'm 24 and got my '88 saph about 8 months ago, and have used it everyday pretty much.
Nice clean original Magenta car, 88000 on the clock when i got it, FSH etc etc...
Cost me £4400, insurance is £700 TPFT with only 1yrs NCB.
Has cost me about £1500 so far (head and turbo rebuilds) but i knew the car would need something doing to it... expensive but it needs to be done if you want a nice reliable car, which it is.
Never really interested in anything Jap, respect the cars but for me they have no character. Scooby's sound the bollox, but there's just too many of 'em about down here.
Love RS Fords (all Fords really!), had an RS Turbo before, so the Cos was a natural progression for me...
