Not really, the stewards said it was the best thing he could have done and that he did well in the short time he had to make a choice. Would have been one hell of a smash if hed hit the wall on his own

Im of the opinion that if I had a 100mph smash I would be a little disorientated, with the adrenaline flowing and having just pumped the pedal Simon could have thought his brake pipe was broken, which would possibly lead to fluid on the track, and more cars coming into that area, so, though it shas already been said, jumping out of the car and over the barriers was the CORRECT thing to do (which it is in any case).
Just because we didnt see the end of the video doesnt mean he didnt speak to the other driver, fuck sake, you must seriously think he jumped the barrier and kept running all the way home
Second, I think he did as best he could given the situation, high speed and pedal to the floor is going to cause panic in alot of people, and I think keeping control and taking to the grass was the right thing to do, it goes without saying he never intended to hit the other chap. He had a split second decision to make, and made the best of what was never going to be a good situation.

Get off the track and get behind the barriers. Reduce the number of people at risk. Speak about it afterwards. Racing involves crashing at all levels. Endangering the marshalls as they have to cross the barriers to try and herd you away as you are having an animated conversation about WHY your car crashed into the other guy is needless.
You can see near the end that he apologises. We all make mistakes and as Stirling Moss once said " If you are not crashing, you are not trying hard enough "

as much of the green eye'd monster in this thread as the youtube comments!
brakes went, simple!
this is old news, Norris has justifyed actions to the people at combe, and they told him he handled it very well!
you'll all be pleased to hear, Simon will be back in the FASTER Special GT series next year. with a lighter car, more power and more grip (so i been told!)

I have to agree with Nrg,if you look at simon norris's racing incidents and crashes,he seems to make the same mistake time after time. He has had a lot of lucky escapes as well performing this type of late manoeuvre.
Why would you race a car that had inadequate brakes, especially with the level of engineering that seems to go into his cars.

I wonder how many of those slating the S-Norris and now the gallacher camps could handle those cars at those speeds without driving into the nearest barrier/car ect, i'm pretty sure i couldn't!

He was just unlucky? I'm sure the amount of times Simon has crashed is only a very small percentage of the actual number of races he's competed in. We just don't get to hear about the ones where he doesnt crash.

That doesnt sound like the posts i remember simon making on that accident. And didnt he help her with the costs of rebuilding her car as well, hardly denying it, is it?

For some reason, Im not aware of Castle Coombe had the Evos out at the same time as a IIRC Peugeot 106 event. (DUMB!) Massive speed difference and he came in, understeered (hear the tyres screaming in the second link) and clouted the back of the 106.

Its racing so its tough titties basically, but Im surprised Norris continues to race there (CC) he's had a fair bit of bad luck at the place.
Though like Hadland im surpriused he managed to boil the fluid in the relatively short straight before this corner.
Re: the Time attack result. I'm sure a lot of that is the car being massively quick.

Racing incident with a big out come in my eyes. In the heat of the race he was trying to keep up with the other cars, took a bit too much kerb and bounced/under steered into the 106. If he was such a bad driver he would have had at minimum points on his racing license, but he dosnt!

You also probably watched Schumacher at the beginning of his f1 career stacking car after car... how many F1 champs did he win?

But come on, its not good spending your career not learning where the limit is. That's what Michael did. Its what he currently doing in DSBK. Learning where the limit is then coming back a fraction from it. Same as Rossi back in 2000. Spent a lot of time crashing, but everyone knew once that stopped he'd be brilliant.
Actually I read a thing in Autosport about Schumis early career. He was average in DTM, not bad in Grp C. But every one said that once he got into something REALLY quick he was great. Strange problem to have.

i cannot believe the people on here saying what a good manouvre it was taking to the grass
having competed under MSA ruling etc and been in the moment, i can understand possibly what simon went through when/if the brakes failed you just very quickly look for the easiest way out (or what you think is for least damage) in the split millisecond as thats all you have, this time the grass was not the best move (nor would it ever be to be honoust) but thats easy to say sat here at home if you havent been there.
I also would think that should he be in that situation again, he also wouldnt take to the grass,
it would of been easier to run in the back of someone travelling at 10-30mph less your travelling speed as soon as you realise the brakes are inop, rather then > grass(everyone else scrubs off 50-80mph) your still on the grass on slicks at circa the same speed you hit it with no brakes crossing the track.
racing incident, wrong split second descision made, shit happens !

just finding my feet
he was in too fast, flicked it to get some sideways to take some speed off and couldnt,,,,bashed a evo and both went on the grass
its obvious what the issue is,,,,, loads of new drivers have testing seasons,,,,, he aint actually a race driver is he as such
bet if it was sean bicknell it would be the other way round though !!!
