sory mate, i was one baout the 4x4 cooler, the 2wd coolers were on for around £40 at the same time because i know a guy who bought a few to weld up together, as well as some other coolers from other motors for something silly like £25 a pop, all with proper welded metal ends, not plastic ones like the r5 turbo's etc
one thing though, seeing as you tend to know about these things would they have had to use a different hose to fit the 500 cooler as it's got bigger pipes on it?
They would mate , the 500 cooler has 76mm in and out pipes , I told the boys at FF that tho and told them the Roosemotorsport did special hoses for this so im sure they ordered some ready
I have not seen the mag yet but was the RR results backed up with a road test comfirming the Airtemp results from the RR, Or was it just straight power runs and nothing more.
im positive thats how it was done, as it was my car that was used
I like testing on a RR but something that relies on real wind for its cooling IMO would need to be tested on the road to back up the data,
Most other things that you test would not be so important to back the data up.

true mark,no matter how good the fans are at r/r,its never going to be the same at speed on the road, especially up here in scotland
cant wait to see how my car does now with the gen rs500 cooler welded to the pro alloy one
i was running pace before and was not getting good act`s on the rollers
why do you feel the need to weld a perfectly good 500 cooler to a very lesser item rod tarry never has ?
and tbh i cant see how pro alloy cam out on top as every big horse cossie running a proalloy cooler has to have the intercooler modified to death to get it to work

The timescales involved in testing 5 coolers meant that we either had to choose to do it all on the rollers, or all on the road. We could get more consistent, repeatable results by doing it all on the rollers, so that's what we did.
Totally agree than in a 'perfect' test, we would have done both, but if we had done both, we'd have been lucky to have managed three.
when we used to race the rs500's on a warm uk day we used to see act of 65degc
when we raced them abroad act was 70 C+, wt was 110 C+ keeping them cool in ambients over 35deg c was a major problem

I can see you point Tony, But what i cannot understand is all the Malta (high power cossies) run either bodged intercoolers ie two welded together or std ones claiming loads of power WTFwould it be down to running such low c/r ratios to keep temps down??
I read in one of the mags a Mk2 escort runninga 4x4 cooler claiming a 430 bhp figure

That's because the test wasn't conducted on a "big horse cossie". It was a 'real world' average spec Cossie. We choose that car to be representative of the kind of car a reader would own, and also one who's spec was crying out for an uprated cooler. In our test the PA one came out on top.

Hi, I can't buy this magazine in Ukraine but very intresting for me which advantages has worst of tested rs500 coolers compared with 4x4 cooler? Can anyone put the scan of this test here for foreign cosie users? It is really useful info
Thanks!
