WRC cars to become cheap ?

WRC cars to become cheap ?
I was wondering, with the end of the WRC cars in the World Rally Championship, you will only be able to use these cars in national rallies, so they may become useless for lot of people, and probably the prices will go down ? We can already see some top group A cars and some old WRC cars getting quite cheap for the car you get.
What you recon ?

i have noticed some wrc cars going up in value,i think there is a major differance between hard used cars and those that did a few rallys in private hands and then went into a collection.
i have seen some group b 6r4's for Ł125000 now back in 1990 my mates dad had a friend who had one that cost 25 grand, they go up in value eventually.
same goes for rs200's, rs1800's etc they are all worth loads more.
Matt you will one day wished you bought the Q8 delecour cosworth i promise you

yep the 500's did go cheep ish, i have a autotrader from 96 with a rs500 road car in the genuine article for Ł7500 and pukka race cars were about high teens.
buying a proper old rally car thats deffo the real deal is a good investment, i should of asked Matt for the details for the ex works delacour sierra rolling shell that was Ł3500 iirc Matt

Hey Karl, I know an ex-Biasion Sierra cosworth 4wd ex-works (carglass car or autoglass, I don't remember haha) for sale. 100'000euros But with specs same if not better than top group A escorts (FFD 7 speeds gearbox, 9" rear diff, ...)
Btw I already found a part which I thought I would never see for sale. More news when I get them haha

i remember seeing iirc g35chk it was ex biasion and bought from ford motorsport boreham for less than the 35 grand in 1992 the car sold for. i remember seeing miki driving it and i saw the car driven by the private rally team that bought it off ford.
that car went to derek mcgarrity in ireland,he probably is the one man who has had the very best wrc cars ever, i'm sure there are some irish lads on here who can back me up. so you see 35 grand in 92 to 100k euros in 08.
i have never seen the brake coolers forsale or the water cooled brakes. the very last sierras were such a good spec that they made the escort very competitive. i saw so many top drivers in sierras Matt. one of the best at chucking a sierra 4x4 around was Pete Doughty and he's British.
i nearly sold my car earlier this year to buy a (famous)group a escort cosworth, but the euro has fooked things up.

Super 2000, also known as S2000, is an FIA specification and classification for production based race cars. The specification is split to cover both rally and touring car racing. Super 2000 rally cars are also permitted to compete in Production World Rally Championship events alongside Group N cars. The goal of the Super 2000 classification is to allow more manufacturers and privateers to race by reducing the cost of a competitive car. The World Rally Championship currently has three manufacturers fielding teams, while private teams rely on older cars from current manufacturers or from "works" teams that have left the WRC, such as Škoda or Mitsubishi. The World Touring Car Championship currently has four manufacturers competing, these being BMW, Seat, Honda & Chevrolet with independent teams generally using older cars from previous seasons
In order to cut costs & shorten development time, the Super 2000 rally cars originally used a common control gearbox & drivetrain made by a French company, Sadev. The FIA has since announced that Xtrac and Ricardo Consulting Engineers will be allowed to also manufacture S2000 gearboxes to FIA spefication. This is to further cut costs by introducing competition into gearbox supply.
In effect these new rules allowed Ford to build from scratch their S2000 Fiesta vehicles in Australia, in as little as 14 weeks, starting out with a Super 1600 chassis & rollcage.
Just googled it mark... I didn't know either

I know there isn't much activity in the rally community in ireland at the minute and talk that a lot haven't the funds to compete in 09, that in itself will have a knock on effect on prices as stuff is sold off. Unfortunately the cosworth is unloved in irish rallying :-(

wouldn't say unloved matey, they are old now and one of them cars that will allways be popular. if wrc cars are going to be obsolete soon their values will drop like stones and that will make stuff like sierra coswoths and escorts and other stuff like celicas, sunny gtir's,legacy rs's and imprezas all group a hold value

i think you mite find virtually no wrc cars have gone into rallycross, the two cars are so far apart it would make zero sence.
wrc cars will not be affected by the credit crunch as a whole because the folk buying and using them are not your average credit crunchers, they are baught and run by folk with very solid business's behind them generally apart from a few reckless irish!!(reids).
as for the Ł125k metro, that car is worth no more than Ł65k,the man is on another planet asking that price and it will definatly never sell anywhere near that price.

There was an ex works group A escort for sale on a car sale website, fully restored, in really mint condition (it looked like it has just been out of the factory), with PlayStation and Repsol colors, but I don't remember the price.
I wonder if Ford had kept the sapphire a little bit if they could have made it a winning car. Ok the wheel base was maybe too long, but in fast rallies it was an advantage (finland, NZ, ...). All that went then to the escort, but a victory in the World Championship is what is missing the most in the Sierra (aka sapphire there) career. Monte-Carlo 1991 was so close, just a huge shame

Yes bigger restrictor i know.. but what more?
Also i do believe wrc cars will be affected by the credit crunch since people owning them no longer get the big sponsor deals they need to run them.

The new Proton was stupidly quick in Ireland & proved it was every bit as quick as the World Cars. It's just like in 1987 when GRP A came & replaced GRP B, by 1988/89 they were just as quick as the GRP B.

Cool paul i thought this meant they would all be getting built in australia meaning malcom wouldnt get the contract

The Proton was that fast only because they used the right tyres for the conditions, while lot of other WRC cars didn't use the winter tyres. Then when everyone used the winter tyres the Proton was way far behind.

regards world rally cars in rallycross, george tracys citroen is ex loeb and used in rallycross now, i think the engine and transmission have been chucked cos they are shit for rx and need to be over double the power and the transmission able to handle it which the standard wrc stuff won't
