Default The performance of SBD16v's astra after I did some mapping

Here's a log file snapshot.

On the bottom graph, rob goes full throttle at 575.7 seconds at 4400rpm and then he gets to 7500rpm at 583 seconds, so thats 7.3 seconds.

Thats going from 94.1mph to 160.5mph

So over 66mph gained in a single gear in 7.3 seconds starting from speeds already WELL above the national limit, thats awesome progress when you think how much wind resistance there is at those sort of speeds, and shows what a massive spread of torque he has to pull through 3000rpm of the rev range with such rapid and near linear progress.

To put it in persepective, thats the same sort of acceleration for the 66mph from 94mph to 160mph as a standard escort cosworth manages from a standing start to get from 0-66mph, so its putting in you your seat at 125mph like an escort cosworth does at 30mph!

Not bad for a car built and mapped by total ameteurs like Rob and me :thumb:

Mapping isnt quite finished yet either, still a bit more to come potentially, but its kind of got to the stage now where TBH it just has enough power for a FWD trackday toy without really needing to worry about chasing every last BHP anymore.

Your comparing it to a standard escort cosworth, why not compare it to the cavalier turbo or calibra instead.Just looks like your trying to show up a standard escort cosworth to me.

I don't see it that way at all. This being a Ford site primarily he's comparing it with something a lot of us can realistically relate to.

All it tells me, is that Rob's car must shift really nicely. Love that feeling of your head getting pushed back, but to feel that at 100+ must be awesome.

Looking forward to seeing it go at Mallory next Sunday

at a guess chip said a cossie as most people on here will be able to understand it from that how many people on here could know how well a cav or calibra turbo goes? i could be wrong though

Chip

Off topic a little but im sure you are the man that will know

Looking at the bonnet of your mates Astra reminded me of a Kawasaki Green Astra GTE from YEARS ago, it had a Cossie Whale Tail and im sure it had Image split rims on it from memory. And the same type of bonnet....hence reminding me

Do you know of the one i mean and would you have any pics of it........

It probably looks tacky of fuck now i have got older, but i remember at the time thinking it looked awesome......must be a good 10-12 years ago

Im sure my car took about 15 seconds to get from 100mph to 160mph when tested by Fast Ford.

Thats a awsome time

I remember it! On the front cover of Max Power and supposedly was 4x4.

Actually saw the car down Southend this summer looking a little ratty, but it sounded quite mental on what sounded like anti lag and an external wastegate.

That would destroy a 700bhp Cossie, if those times were proved against proper Datron thats almost identical to mine between those 2 increments .

It's still running pretty conservative ignition advance at the top end as its actually quite hard to hear det at those rpm as there are so many other mechanical noises, so ive not wouldnt any back on as the RPM increase even though it could probably take a few degrees, it also means we are safe if we get any heat build up with sustained use too of course.
I dont think the ignition is a problem as we're only getting 850 degrees of ignition but if we were building it again I reckon we might drop the CR a touch to allow a little more advance.
Really want to get it on race fuel and see what its like then, but TBH for this sort of car, there just isnt really any need for any more power than this as you wont be able to lay it down at the speeds we're doing on track anyway.

for me, who is crap with numbers, how much power does that take to go from 94 mph to 160 mph in 7 point and a bit seconds?

and how much time would someone like rod's graphs take to figure out how much distance it's covered in that time?

i will just say that those figures are absolutly fantastic

Tiff, yes mate I vaguely remember the one, was one of the first ever 4wd converted ones.

Rod, shit, you are right, I had two fucking graphs and 1 was 4th gear at 1.3 bar, and the other was 5th gear at 1.8 bar and Ive gone and transposed the wrong one.

for me then.

Back in a bit with the real numbers to show how wrong I got it.

How embarassing

No mate, he hasnt yet, only finished fitting the new inlet at 10pm last night and not had a chance to do any of that stuff yet as he has been working.

We'll be doing that in the new year.

Right, here's the 5th gear graph, I messed up and took the numbers off a 4th gear low boost run by mistake!

Figures should have been 5 seconds from 90-140
not 7 seconds from 90-160

Still essentially the same acceleration rate, of 10mph per second, but at a slightly lower speed of course.

That 7 seconds graph is a low boost 4th gear run.

oops, that'll learn me to be more careful with my data in future, lol

I dont believe for a second its as little power as that, but havent had it on the rollers yet so i'll have to wait and see, it tends to punch above its weight though if you are just looking at the power figures, due to the amount of torque it makes, it was making over 350lbft on the low boost rolling road session we did on the old inlet for example, and that was only 330bhp at the time.

Even 380 would be the same sort of power to weight at the wheels as a 550bhp escos though to put into perspective the difference in weight and transmission loss.

Im sure Rob said it was 900kg ish, but I may be remembering that wrong, certainly be surprised if its over a ton as there is fuck all to it.

90 - 140 in 5 seconds is getting on with it mate

to put that into perspective ive just checked on rods website and listed on there works out 90 - 140 in 5.4 seconds massive hats off to you mate technically quicker than rods car from 90 - 140
