My dad has a vauxhall astra any way he went to work in it today evrything was fine but when he got in it to come home he noticed the engine management light was on. it got him home no problem but when he went back to it to go shoping it wount start no spark so i went and got a new crank sensor and coil pack and it still in sparking it is a mk4 astra 1.6 8 valve s reg the car has only done 39k never has no bother with it till now any one can help i was thinking the chip in the key
ecu would fella used to be a rework on these ecu's for this engine/car!run out now as it was valid at6year/60k,check your ecu see if it has got remanufactured anywhere on it!
the ecu is located next to the battery under a black cover

yer i know the ecu will effect the spark but i dint think the egr valve would it is for emissions int it?
yer i had a look at the ecu and i done think it says out like that
yer EGR is for emissions reduces NOX but will cause it hard to start, but as you quite correctly say will not effect the spark!sounds like the ecu might have gone tits up!
have you got any voltage at the throttle position switch?
or coil pack?
what about the resistance in the primary and secondary windings?
if you have voltage at the tps then the ecu is usually ok, voltage varies 5-12v.
is it the single coil version or coil per plug?

its mad how they can just go al have to try another but al have to get the chip key and the tranponder wount i?

have just borrowed my mates volt meater so al check in morning
usually on vauxhalls if the transponder goes down the car will crank, fire and cut out.
also the little picture in the instrument clust of the car with a key above it flashes like crazy.
need to know if the coil is switching, or even has a feed,
need to know if the tps has power?
