I don't get these people saying work of art etc

its a lot easier to make a head look good than make it flow more air most ported heads are rubbish they lose out everywhere unless they are done right

Yep, and very limited number of cars between them, hence my comment about it being relatively new technology, especially to ford.

Not really new tech, 4 valve per cylinder heads have been around since 1912, Cosworth's first the FVA was in 1966 so by the time the YB head came along is was pretty standard fair.

Not quite correct, Neil started full time in the late 70's (there is even picture in the book given to employees, of him wearing flares and a mullet hair style) and was there to the end.
I believe Nick worked there early 90's and left before the end.
Both do good work.

Steve
I remember you said they once worked together, I didn't realise it was at such different times.

Can't knock either of them for their work though, as I said earlier I can only comment on what I've seen make the numbers although I have seen Neils work and it does look good.

A fair few people I know are now using his heads so I'm looking forward to seeing the results

Most of the names above produce the best heads available.

Nick Waples, Neil Roper, Karl Norris (All in the same league).

Personally I'd prefer the person I'm talking too, to be the person who's doing the work, then I know there's going to be no confusion as to exactly what I want from the head.

Alot of people naturally assume that someone's full blown head is the ultimate..... Which it might be on a circuit car, but to try and use the same head on a rally car and it would be a night mare, wrong torque curve etc etc etc.

Make sure you explain to your builder.......... Exactly what you want the head for, a fast road car, a rally car, a race car, a circuit car, where you want the power to come in, what rpm the bottom end is capable of, all of this should be know by the person modifying your head (If your paying top money, and your head builder is a real pro.........these are the questions he should be asking you, if you don't tell him in the first place).

I've had a Karl Norris head, it was well machined & produced the power where I told him I wanted it. For me................... I'd go to Karl Norris. But either of the other two names are also in the same league.

Swap the word "new" for "undeveloped by todays standards" if you are feeling pedantic mate.
The amount of road cars sporting a 16v head at the time was probably under .1 %

Hence ford went to cosworth for the heads in the first place, because it was still such niche technology.

They didn't go to Cosworth for the 16v head on purpose, they just happened to spot a 16v pinto in Cosworth's workshop when taking a tour of the place!
