Default Cossy into transit????????

I have been looking around for a transit cosworth but the only one i can find is the chorley street one, although it is a belter and i would love it I cant justify spending 10k on one just to take the bike to the track!

So....maybe do one myself?!?! My question is, I have been told its basically a straight swap??? And you can only do it up to a 2001???? Is this correct? Any info would be appreciated so i can start thinking about sourcing van and running gear so i can get it built in time for the racing season starting.

Right i think i messed up the year, its a 99 it fits into, then the "new shape" came out and thats got different mounts so it isnt a straight swap. Anybody know for def?

A bloke (luke) on the transit forum has fitted a cosworth engine into a mk6 transit now as well, if you want any info on cosworth transit conversions have a look on there as a few have done it.

in all honesty mate know 10 grand is a lot of money but you,ve probably seen for yourself the amount of people that have thought the same as you a can build one of them and failed as they think it wont cost that much but to do rite the cost a fortune

geoffs van is the only one av seen thats actually looks the part all the rest just looks shit and cheap as it has all the suspension converted etc.. to not just a half job , but at the end of the day as u say is a lot of money for a van to take your bike about in as you say but you,ll get some respect when driving it and shock some folk

is the csg tranny 10 grand, ie you would own the thing for that , i have had a good luck round and tbh i'd say considering the spec its worh that.

there was a orange one on ph for 2 grand only that was a cosworth v6

and here it is http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/815186.htm

, if you tidy'd it up and put some twin headlights, some recaros, and some f off wheels on it you would have nearly the same thing for 3 grand ish.
i reckon you could bid the orange one down to,also as its ex rac it will tow a car no probs as its a swb 150 with the hd axel and front hubs

mark, my mate has a mk1 cortina he is going to 24v cosworth, he has just this week got a complete donor car. its a bog eyed 24v ultima m reg estate.
what does a conversion require and not as he wants the stuff the car needs and get rid of the stuff he doesn't. other than some coil overs and a 5spd box the rest going to be kept standardish. does a ultima have a lsd and rear brakes the same as a cozzie ?

Right basicly its going to need the full loom as its an eec-v unless he has a better plan dont think the rad will be of much good for a mk1 tina rear brakes should be vented discs and as for the diff im not sure jack the car up the car by the diff handbrake off and in park spin 1 of the wheels forwards if the other goes forwards also its lsd if it goes the reverse way its not ( i think thats how it goes someone correct me)

Loom is going to be the most dificult part.....

would the earlier 24v of been a better doner ??,dunno why but i seem to remember they were a better engine, plus the earlier 24v scorpios had the 2wd cozzie diff. i got completely dis intrested in scorpios when the bog eyed one came out.
does the ultima 24v need to run cats too ??

Well from a wiring point of view yes lol also i think the earlier engine is a bit stronger but thats just my opinion.

Yeh early ones basicly had the 7.5inch diff just smaller driveshaft cups which you can swap for the cosworth ones.

Nope dont need cats although on the std eec v it maybe a problem not sure not done one with eec v as for emmissions reasons they will go on the age of whatever is older in this case the car so that bit wont cause any issues at all

PM me if you wanna chat about it
