i have decided to sell my sports bike and buy a car. i was thinking of an evo or scooby but they are horrendious to insure so thought about an m3 or m5 but not sure which one. the car will do 50% road work and 50% track days so just wondered on peoples thoughts on both cars or any other suggestions maybe.

I own an E39 M5 and it's awesome....i do have a BIG soft spot for E46 M3's though and would love one personally!!
Both are in a different league to a 200sx and supra IMO too!
Either will make you happy im sure!

i sold my m5 last year and dealt it with an e46 m3.......i was actually quite pleased until i began to use it and really missed my m5.the grunt from the v8 is superb.the m3 is a bit "harsh" for everyday use.
i also did a few trackdays in my m5 and was surprisingly capable out there with uprated brake pads.
i really like both cars though but i think the m5 shades it as an all rounder.if you have e46 budget money, buy an m5 and an e36 m3 for trackdays...........mine is awesome!

I do like the e46, as it must be a little bit lighter which makes it a bit easier for track use?
I would happily have a fleet of the M cars though and an e39 m5 would be in there without any doubt. I am now considering the current M5 though, it just looks too good to not have for that much cash, plus 200mph on the way to work everyday would be insane!!!

id go for the m5 mate just be ready for a big bill if it goes wrong remember that car was over 60k new which means the parts are still going to be that of a 60 grand car thats what put me off of getting one. i found the e46 m3 to small and far to common i must see 5 m3s every day how many e39 m5s do you see? Try and get an m5 with warranty if you can an 8k m5 could easily turn into a 14k car if your not carefull.
Also who are you getting insurance quotes from its was £250 more to insure an e39 m5 than my evo 8 340 mr?

I don't think I am particularly rich by any means! There cannot be that much difference cash wise between a new passat and a 2nd hand M car nowadays. Just need to make the sacrifices to own something like those. The running cost if you do proper mileage is the real killer.
