good engine, but did not have the power of the BMW bat cars of the time.

suffered the same problems as the BOA 24v cosworth engines, over 400 bhp they would crack the blocks.

Probably is better all round than a Bda....The mk1 rs1600 rally cars for the 1970 world cup rally had the Bda's removed and crossflows fitted for reliability,so the xflow has a good shout for best engine.

You could say the same about any ford engine practically, fact is untill BMW homologated the 'Bat Wing' aero kit on the CSL the Capri had it licked. And it still won plenty of races afterwards.

Anyway this thread is about Escorts and I posted up a 400bhp Escort prepared by Ford

Nothing wrong with a pinto, it's a much stronger engine than a BDA!

Default Best engine for Historic Special Saloon Ford Escort.

A couple of the lads with Historic Special Saloon Ford Escorts are using BDG units in the HMSA,they are pretty Bloody quick especially as they have spaceframes and use slicks.
www.historicmodsportsandsaloons.com

Some of the Works Escorts used this Fabulous engine but they are expensive to repair and trying to locate original spares is a nightmare.

Also the All Steel Big Block X/Flows where awesome units.

As Karl says you can get good power from a pinto and half the cost of building a BDA

Yes the Pintos are certainly good engines but they never look exciting in a period Historic race car for some reason.

With the BDA/BDG, X/Flows and even the Pre X/Flows they are flatter and appeal more to the eye.

Whats the best BHP you can get out of the Pinto, using All Steel components.

old school crossflow, for being so basic, a well built 1 can realy fly, and all in 1700cc's
obviously the bda's were the daddy's of the day but price and reliability just outway the good imho

Default Escort Engine

Best engine for escort has got to be BDG or BDX if got to be original, otherwise Hart 420R or Rallymaster (chevy Vega head on pinto block)

That escort in the youtube vid has got to be one of the best looking and best sounding ones I've ever seen! When it comes out of the corner, wheelspinning ever so slightly on the exit...
