Default T5 gear oil?

what gear oil to use?i had a choice of aqf,aq202,amf and a couple of others-they were all automatic gear oils!also herd you can use 75w90 manual gear oil??they dont seem to sell a std atf dextron 2 nowdays there all specified for more modern g/boxes and power steering

any help?

Dex 3 is fine as well, it has the same specs.

dexron 2 is what ya want fella!if you can not find it at any motor factors go to any vauxhall garage and they will have it!

You can use, ATF (original) or MTF is popular too.

MTF manual transmission oil or 75W90 is better, as it is not as slippery, so the synchros can do what they are supposed to do, as opposed to having to slide with ATF which is not good as they need FRICTION to operate effectively, that's why I use gear oil.
On early boxes(T5) that have not been rebuilt with later selector forks and revised "pads" on them the ATF attacks the pads of the earlier ones as they are made from COMPRESSED PAPER and they fall apart, later boxes and some of the other 33 variants of the T5 used nylon ones to start with.
