I know central blast cleaning do shell dipping but i wondered if there is anyone else people use for this sort of thing?
I need a shell dipping or blasting to get it back to bare metal. I am in cheshire if anyone knows of anywhere localish to me?

Ive had 4 cars done this way. normally about Ł500 a pop for the blasting.
JUST MAKE SURE THEY USE LOW PRESSURE BLAST
My S1 rst came back with warped pannels cos of an over trigger happy blaster

a few of my
"blasts"

blasted and zinced

5 litres of diamond white

To save money id just recomend zinc coating it immediatly after the blast as i did.
A dip is very expensive and i dont think is much more benificial for the cost involved.

There are some issues with dipping that you need to be aware of.
The acid can get trapped in sills etc. and if not properly neuatralised just keeps on eating.
The consensus on turbosport was that media blasting was safer and cheaper.

Think my shell might be spending a fair while in the bodwshop anyway as the rear quarter is a bit wobbly!
I have just rang somewhere and they have quoted Ł250 to do inside and underneath. Guess thats quite a good price, and they are mobile. Thing is the dust and grime that will be made when he does it.

Also unless its a burning hot day in the summer i wouldnt advise a moblie blasting unit.
Ideally you want to have it done in a specail designed workshop, and get that zinc primer on ASAP. MY S1 was in zinc coat 10 mins after being bare metal!!

Ive seen mobile blasting using.......oyster(sp) shells, it just kinda turned to dust and was blown away which didn't matter much as is was enviromentally friendly.
I think you can hire them.

Did a bit more digging on this and there is somewhere not a million miles away from me who will blast and prime it for Ł300 which seems a very fair price. They have done a few MK1 escorts in the past as well.
where u located dude?
if its anywhere in the midlands, as for media blasting i can recommend a place in covnetry called marawise, they do plenty of shells iv noticed, and im told work at a competitive rate, they did the blasting on the discovery channel 'beetle crisis' car
if its dipping u want, then theres a place in gornal in the black country (i forget the name sorry
) they are pretty much regarded as 1 of the best, they also did work for the discovery channel 'campervan crisis' show, and have been featured in a few issues of various ford and classic car mags. my old company had a unit in the same industrial estate, and i watched many a project car come in for dipping, from mk1 escorts, to porsches etc
id say media blasting was the much cheaper option, but if controlled correctly, the acid dip will eat rust absolutely everywhere, especially where blastings cnt get to
