Default LPG Range Rover Q's

i fancy a bit of a comfy cruiser for a while, had a V8 range rover years ago & wouldn't mind another, i'm a tight fooker so wouldn't foot the fuel bill, which got me thinking about an LPG converted one, been told it compares to about 30mpg, would probably be looking at around a 2000/1 model, are these quite a reliable motor?
your views please

I fancied one about a year ago and without a doubt the consensus was they are completely shit! One owner even told me that the only thing he could say nice about his was the cigarette lighter had never gone wrong.

Hi there mate, i had a 1998 p38 and must say it was the best car i have ever driven/owned.I had it converted to gas and it was doing 200+ miles to 25 pounds worth of gas. when gas was 40 pence a litre now its 50 something though.
to be very honest you either get a good one or a bad one simple as that.

I had a p38, 4.6 petrol, obviously thirsty. However, very reliable car, never had any issues with it. Would love another but the new shape ones are coming down in price. Mate of mine just bought an 02/03 diesel with 40,000 for £8500, tempted to buy it off him.

I work at a Land Rover dealer here in NZ and I swear to god more P38 Range Rovers come in on the back of a truck than drive in!!! They are fucking terrible pieces of shit.

I do however own a LM44 Range Rover on LPG and it's great. They are VERY reliable(basically BMW X5 underneath), in fact I rate them better than the slightly newer ones with Ford underpinnings, we get very little trouble with them at all.

I've recently got one Airbag sus a pain in the arse, I've swapped mine to springs already.

IMO the problems with the car is that they are too complicated, to many check systems which fail on a sensor out of range. Once you fix it it need reset lights turned off everytime time is doesn't check and think oh it fixed and head gasket problems on them too.

Mine has been converted to multi point LPG which is better than the single point, And it has had the heads rebuilt.

The worst problem is trying to buy 1 the owners are fuckers, they know the car has a problem but there are so many things to check they hope you won't find it

I love all Landys and Rangies... but they're shit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise

I had a P38 for a while this year and even used it for a bit but was a derv and the suspension went on it almost straight away, did the spring conversion and never looked back. [If anyone has a P38, they should DEFFO do this as it not only saves thousands if your airbags fuck up, but it also drives better]

You think "cosworth tax" is bad, try running one of those fuckers

REALLY good value at the moment if you want a big barge, are the Grand Cherokees. Yes, they have problems too but you can pick a decent petrol one up for about £3k. We've been selling quite a few of the later Rangies for around the £10k mark as well, they look such good value and people are still buying them...I love the credit crunch!

If its a P38 forget it. theres a reason they are dirt cheap!!!

The old skool "classic" V8 would be a better buy IMHO!!

You can even get a decent Range Rover Sport for 25-30k now

Heres my baby, i prefer driving this to all my other cars EVER, even the cossie!!!
weight!)

Why WHY WHY landrover ever used the TD5 engine is beyond me, its less reliable than a cosworth YB

My mum had a disco 2 when they were first out and after 10k miles it needed an engine rebuild (underwarranty of course but still not on for a £35/40k+ car!!)
