PassionFord Post Whore!!
id say leave it in as that way when getting the car setup on road or rollers it would be very useful to the mapper, no messing about removing the chip to read and adjust the map every 5 mins
its going to help the same people that are moaning about it. lol

Fuck them, leave it in....you can't sue peope/companies because they sell a product that might be able to be used illegaly lol.
Could sue Ikea for selling knives that are capable of stabbing people, and sue Ford for making cars that can run people over, what a load of toss
Leave it in, about time the Ford scene had more tools like this.

Cheers for the support guys
I now have a L8 with Pectel board to have a play with today...Big thanks to Stu21t
If anyone is interested, I will post up some pictures later today showing how and what I do with these ecu's I am borrowing to do tests.

After todays tests, I can confirm it now works on L8 Pectel (4 injectors) as well as Pectel enabled MSD chips.
On the way
Obviously they realise that after telling me that "it couldnt be done", actually it can
I am not worried but I would rather forget about it as I said before, this isnt about maps or software picracy and they dont have a leg to stand on anyway.
No one has made me an offer to take it on or to forget about doing it so its all hot air IMO...LOL
Most likely now to end up now as freeware...

No worries, glad I could help, pics will b cool.
This might b a very stupid question but is there anyway of these ecus being able to do boost dependent gearing?
So it can run say 20 psi in 1st, 25 in 2nd and 30 in 3rd
Or am I dreaming and need to buy the apexi boost controller LOL

Not being an expert, my simplistic understanding would be that you'd need some way of telling the ECU what gear you're in, like a sensor stuck to the gearbox or stick.
My Visa card likes the sound of freeware

Some pictures and brief explanation on what I have been doing with sample ecu's....
Basically, I designed and buit a virtual engine simulator.
This allows me to run the ecu with any setting I choose under any conditions.
It lets me test without a car in a nice warm workshop.. (actually in my living room)
Here is the all equipment...
From left to right...
A 12 volt power supply, The simulator box,
An L8 ecu with pectel board.
(The blue board below the ecu is the components needed to interface the PC)
An injector for audible feedback (Out of shot in this picture)
This is a close up of the simulator.
Inside is a computer with software providing all the correct signals and voltage levels needed to simulate an engine.
The knobs on top allow quick changes to any of the input parameters.
The green led inicators show the status of some ecu outputs.
Please forgive my crappy handwritting

A close up of the L8 ecu and pectel board.
A close up of the PC interface board.
All these components will be in lead...LOL
They are needed to make sure the polarity and voltage levels match between the computer and ecu/
Ok, firstly I connect to the ecu with a memory reader program I wrote many years ago.
This allows me to read out the entire chip contents no matter what encryption is in place because it sees exactly what the ecu processor see's.
There is a software locking procedure to gain access but thats top secret..LOL
FYI...I have hidden secret access codes behind the yellow box.
After uploading the unencrypted chip contents, I run a dissasembler program of my own design. This allows me to read the base program code and find maps and data variables to adjust/read etc..
There are many variants of ecu software and tuners types of file combinations but as I have built this program with most of my knowledge on these, a whole new program can usually be fully dissasembled and 99% of the data area's identiified in around 3 minutes !!!!
The very first file I ever did over 15 years ago took me 9 weeks
So they do get a bit easier with experience.
In this picture is the first few instructions of a non encrpted stage 3 standard weber file.
These include extra information that my program adds to make my life easy.
I will state here, any chip files gained are used only by me for development purposes and will not be passed on to any third party.
I examine them to ensure I get the right data for monitoring purposes..etc...
Once I have verified or found out new information, I add codes and extra instructions to the FPM program so it can identify the chip correctly and give the user the correct data as fast as possible with the limits of the ecu's ability.
Here is a screen shot of a rough screen I use to check data matches up to what my simulator is telling me.
NOTE in this picture the CO pot reads 0.0%... I reckon this ecu was live mapped at some point
Despite rumours to the contrary ALL chips on weber ecu's are variants and/or modified versions of the original weber program base code.
You would be surprised how similar most files are excluding the calibration sections. !
Here is a video to prove it does actually work on a Pectel Board running an MSD chip.
The noise is the injector...
You can hear when I hit the rev limiter...LOL
I hope this helps explain a few things Any questions, feel free to ask.
(Any job offers considered in excess of Ł35K )

PassionFord Post Whore!!
yes I do, gear dependent boost LOL, I'm on my phone and it's hard to see what Ive types LOL.
I think there's a sensor you can use from a fiesta but I'm not sure, you need to do this with the apexi to, but if the ecu or this software or both can do it then I know it would very popular ESP to 2wd peeps.

Stu21t,
The L8 as is cannot do it. It could be modified to do it but it would be much cheaper to use an aftermarket solution
I reckon its 2 weeks work at a cost of Ł1000 + ...LOL
** THIS IS A FOR SALE AD !

apexi it is then LOL, fucking cool pics, very talented man.
I mostly understood the post LOL
That ecu and chip looks familiar LOL
The Msd chip Is a through the post jobbie not been fitted to the car yet. But the old chip was dynod to the engine but never ran 100%

You said go for it initially when I first said about mapping features then now advised me against it. ??
I can kind of see that it could damage cars but only if missused but it is a tool and like any tool has to be used properly.
At this point in time, only monitor and global adjust features will be available.
I dont see why anyone would need to invest sustantial amounts of money in marketing (if ever sold) I could set up an ebay shop and do it free but thats not what I want to do.
Thanks mate
I suspect it was only ever dynoed to max power and will need further live mapping in car.
Having said that, I suspect the MSD chip will be spot on
Yes Kev. I will respond soon.
LOL, Stu needs his own baby board designed...

Publically I am not sure.
However, I will add you on the list of my testers so you can have a play with a partly working demo at no cost to yourself.
I just need to sort some leads out... That involves me getting my arse out this armchair sometime

You will need an RS232 port, if you dont have one then you need to buy a
USB to serial adaptor.
Some adpators are shit but I can recomend a good one if needed, but I have yet to actually try a bad one myself !
The lead is special one that I have designed. It has component in it so its not just a peice of wire !
It currently will only work on L6 Pectel chips that have monitor functions enabled.
I am working on away of getting around this but that wont be for a while yet.

LOL, trust you to point that one out..
What I should have said is it would be very cheap to use ebay..
LOL, That means I would have to pay Tony Mannock royalties

Sorry Paul, My mistake.
I havent tried a P8 super 8 properly but if it has all the pectel mods done to it already, then it should be fine

Sorry Paul, I editted my post above. I have tried a P8 super 8 and it works fine
Sorry for confussion.
Thank for the offer, I will be making a list of test people soon to send out free trials to and you are the only P8 Super 8 on here.
I will PM everybody soon

Stu,
In one of your chips....
The sequence of bytes at the following addresses make interesting reading...
F650, F720, F790 (or 3650, 3720, 3790 if offset from 0 in the eprom)
Good to see proper records !
