BMX Bikes advice needed please **UPDATED - BOUGHT THE BIKE**
Can anyone advise me on a decent BMX bike to buy for Kai for Christmas. I have no idea about what make to buy or which ones are good or bad and Kai doesn't know which one he wants either.
We don't really want to spend anymore than £250, he's about 5'4" (he's only 11).
Any advice would be great thanks

My brother has still got his Raleigh Extra Burner, it's still in mint condition, I've asked him to pass it down to Kai but he's having none of it.
I'll have a look at the ones you have suggested thank you

You ideally want something thats light, with a 3 piece crank (which are stronger) and something with chrome rims, the black rims arent the best when it comes to braking, you need to take him to a proper bmx specialist, ive been riding for over 10 years now, its comes down to a lot more than just the colour etc. You need to check what toptube length he is comfortable with, what sweep angle on the handlebars, theres loads to it.
To give you an example i'm 6ft 2 at 21 years old, my toptube length (the one you smash your nuts on) is 20.62" and thats the most comfortable one for me. for someone like your son at 11 at 5ft 4 he'd probably find 20.25 or less the most comfortable. if you need anymore help with anything bmx related give me a pm

take a look at these, all the ones in the £250 price range are all from well known bmx companies and are made to take abuse a young kid can throw at them for a couple of years
in this day and age most bmx's in this price range are pretty much the same parts wise so its just down to company prefernce and/or colour choice and finding one that he is comfortable on
ive been riding for 17 years now and ive seen these bikes get abused at my local park for the last 2 years and there still going strong, 10 years ago the equivilant didnt last 6 months

The nearest BMX track to us is Hartlepool, they have an open practice session on a Saturday, it's my intention to try and take him down there so he can really enjoy the bike So I guess he's going to need a bike that can take some punishment

The best place to get a bike is from extreme they're a uk distributor for most of the bikes, people like Winstanleys buy their bikes from them.
Alternativly ask on RADBMX theres loads of old guys with kids on there.
Ignore Diamond back or GT- they're commercial run of the mill bikes, you're son should be able to get a very good entry WTP (We The People) or Eastern bike for the money and it will be a better F+F ( Frame and Forks ) set than the Diamond back or GT will be for the money.
Stay away from Halfrauds... argos... toys r us... etc.
That being said- are you sure its what he wants to do as £250 is a lot of money for a novice/beginer who may decide its not for them.

Point taken, what bike would you suggest for a novice/beginner which would stand some punishment that an 11 year old would give it??

dont get a 11yr old a Raleigh Burner or Skyway etc, his mates will take the piss out of him, they cool for grown ups, but kids will think its his grandads
