Anyone seen the max payne movie trailer on the tv the last week or so?

Looks quite good. Vampires and a Marylin Manson sound track so im gna go watch it just for that anyway!

I understand the film originates from the gaming world, and is based on the interactive 2003 (PS3/Xbox??) game? Never played it or even heard of it untill now.

A lot of "gamers" dont rate the film, as it strays too much from the games story line and characters.

Do you think its just the sad/hobbit gamers opinions who dont get out much if u get my drift.

i dont want waste the best part of £30-40 taking some mates to see it if its a flump.

Anyone else heard good/ bad things about the film?

 

Looks alright, I enjoyed playing the game on the PC, awesome shoot 'em up

 

the film looks very dark, especially with manson music, thats what attracted me to it.

Theres vampires in the film, are they in the game? i love vampires

 

I don't remember there being vampires, it's a really dark game, Ragna Rock is in the game and the film, massive level of shooting the shit out of everything in that

iirc, it was the first game to include bullet time, where the whole game slowed down to show bullets whizzing past etc? was an awesome game, used to love it. Don't remeber vampires though.

Will deffo go see the film.

 

got MP2 on ps2. bullet time on it was awesome! if the film has some good directing, it shouldn't be bad.. hollywood blockbuster i doubt though..

I loved both games on PC/playstation, but I don't think the film looks up to much. The best thing about the game was all the awesome bullet time stuff, which we've seen loads of in the Matrix films, so it'd have to have something extra special to beat them, or a wicked story line.

AFAIK there are no vampires in the game, possibly why "gamers" aren't up for it. Also think they could have cast the cahracter better than Mark Whalberg. Pity Johnny Knoxville was too much of an idiot, he looks exactly like the Max Payne in the games.

As with most american movies created from video games the so called plot of the movie is changed completely from what the game plot was - the original Max Payne video games referenced vampires to one of the games evil, drug, psycho characters who resided in Ragna Rock nightclub but movie has been changed to say real vampires, etc

Also in the game Jim Bravura the police chief was a fat white man & in the movie he's now a muscle bound black hard man

TBH most gamers who loved the Max Payne franchise will hate the movie as its nothing like the game its been "based" on

That said one of my mates went & watched it when he was in the states back in October & he said its one of those throwaway movies thats not that memorable He was suprised that in America it didnt end up going straight to video

I still love the games - still have the occasional shoot em up after a stressful day

 

Im bored already, think i may give it a miss, sounds like a flop the more i hear of it.

 

i don't understand why people say marky mark is a shit actor, he's always been good in the roles he's played in the films i've seen him in, departed, the happening, four brothers, etc

the film might get shit reviews, but that's not going to stop you going to watch a shit film that you want to watch is it

i'll go and see it, right after i get time to go and see bond again

quality game,resident evil was a quality game and i thought the films were pretty good

 

i think the whole "professional movie critic" thing is way way too farly biased towards what the studio's want

i watch a film and decide if i think it's shit or not, i don't want someone telling me that, just because they happen to be johnathan ross, that the movies i go and see should be only the ones he recommends

why?

films are supposed to be about going to the cenima and being entertained for a few hours, not about anything else as far as i'm concnerend, be it starting a tv show or pushing some merchandise

if enough people like the film they can make another one, if they don't then that's their tough luck for picking a dud

i also understand the gamers point where they sa it should be true to the game, but then i also realise that sometimes you need to deviate a little to make it happen on screen, take the bourne ultimatlum for example, if they'd done it by the book he would have been 50 years old, but they've twisted the tale enough so that the essence of the story is there, bourne wants to live a normal life again so even though it's a million miles from what happens in the book, it still makes for a good film

the same with transformers, people were going nuts about prime being a long nose mack rathr than a flat nosed peterbuilt, and megatron ebing some sort of outer space flying shit than the gun he's supposed to be, but the film made them issues forgivable because there was a lot of stuff there that made sense to the long time fan and yet there was nothing that detracted from someone new coing into the film trying to work out what was what and making assumptions peole know why things are happening

as said, i'll go and watch it, if it's a shit film i'll say so, bt if i enjoy it, i'll enjoy it

the first one still makes sense the other 2 seem to be more in it for the money from the tranchise to be honest, besides, flying trains? they'd be on the news

 

iv seen it already and the movie is good. Mark's acting is very good.

 

i watched it yesterday and is ok to kill some time... still better than that utter load of shit bond film... one good film i saw lately was called Taken...

 

taken was a low budget movie belive it or not but it was a really really good one.

 

imdb rates it 5.9 out of 10 so i would suspect an average film!

I think i just got excited seeing vampires and hearing marylin manson.

Im not expecting the film to be amazing, just that i love dark stuff and theres not many new films out there that are evil.

Thing is going out as a group of 4's gna cost easily £50, just to see the film, and then the "bend over please" prices for a drink and a bag of popcorn the size of a matchbox.

Think i'll wait untill the dvd!

my dvd man does 5 for a tenner.. mostly top quality as was max payne one.. ..

 

9 for £20 or 4 for a tenner

the indian market has been cornered as well, most shops will dish them out for less than £2 a film, and when it comes to pirated music, don't even go there

some shops will take the best bits of several albums, put them on a disc, then sell them as authentic, and charge people "authentic" prices for them and just pocket the lot, the artists don't see a penny and it just goes from there

 

i think it will b good critics never give game movies a very gd review, but i liked hitman and all of the resident evil film so i think this will b good and mark is a gr8 actor aswell
