WRC Focus passenger ride UPDATED 20/11/2008
Well what can i say , just got home
It was fuc*ing wicked , unfortuantly no Marcus Gronholm ,but we had 1 of the current WRC
works drivers Jari-Matti Latvala a 23 year old Finnish driver.
the day started with a passenger ride in a group n spec ST150 rally car , then when all of us had been round the track as a passenger ,we got 4 laps driving. That was actually a lot better than most of us thought it would be. Then we drove to Dovenby Hall which is the home of M-sport for a little tour, whilst looking around we got to see a few of the cars that are on display , the British Airways mk 2 escort , escort cosworth ex Francois Delecour , a mint RS 1700T and the 1st Focus to win a round of the rally championship driven by Coiln McRae in 1999.
Then we went in to the workshop where they build the WRC focus, there were about 10 of them being worked on and we were told each car cost between Ł450 to Ł500 Thousand. WTF , the mechanics that work on these cars can change a clutch in about 1 minute and it costs 15 grand. Also saw the Stobart mk 2 that Malcolm has just won the rac with.
After leaving Dovenby Hall we had a half hour drive to a little place just outside Penrith called Greystoke, this is the place that has a 3 kilometer rally forest stage with a proper factory focus wrc and a full team of wrc mechanics waiting for us.
i was number 17 out of 18 people so by the time i was ready to go the light was fading a little, no problem the team fitted on the massive front spot lights. So there i was waiting like a young boy with his 1st hard on to get in this half a million pound machine, i get the nod to climb in ,2 minutes later im fully strapped in and grinning like a cheshire cat. Jari-Matti selects 1st gear and slowly pulls away from the pit area , after driving about 20 feet he utters to me through the intercom " are you ready for this " so i reply " yes lets go " but i was actually thinking to myself what the fuck is this really going to be like, with that Jari plants his right foot firmly on the gas pedal and thats it we are away 2nd - 3rd 4th then a sharpe right hand bend left foot braking while feathering the throttle pedal , after the 1st bend i didnt have a fucking clue if we going left or right i was trying to see where we were going but as you sit so low in the passenger seat you have no chance. I was just looking everyware , his feet his hands the speedo ( i saw 130 k/ph at one point ), at every point on the drive i was thinking if he loses this car its gonna hurt big time but deep down i knew from the way he controlled the car and the level of concentration on his face that i was not going to die. Then as quick as we had started the stage it was over. I can honestly say that was the biggest and best buzz that i have ever had in my whole life, i reakon he could well be a future world champ.
Also a few of you people on here know DOO, well he was there as well so at some stage he may tell you how he felt when he had his ride.
i will try and post some pics up over the next day or so , off to bed now as i am completely knackered.

Here you go rich a few more pics and my write up the day will send you a CD as soon as i can get it sorted!!
I Won a day out with M sport and the WRC team i had to sale a load of Ford BP/castrol oil in work to be entered and lucky me i was one of 26 that won also me sister won aswell as she works with me LOL and i also took 2 of my custmors that bought the oil as well.
The day started and we left at 10.30am for a 300 mile drive to cockermouth in Cumbria took almost 5 hours to get there but was worth it.
Spent the night in a hotel where we had to meet the rest of the winners and the M-sport team including works drivers Jari-Matti Latvala a 23 year old Finnish driver for dinner and talk.
Only planed 2 have a couple of pints then off to bed as i did not want to be hanging for the next day well in the end had far to many pints and bottles of wine and went to bed at 2.00am
Up at 6.30am for a breakey then off to Rowrah kart track for a drive in a group N Fiesta ST rally car after being shown a few laps round with an M-sport driver it was my turn to drive did not expect it to be that good but the fiestas was great fun and i was susprized how well the drove
After the fiesta drive it was off to M-Sport Dovenby Hall for a tour of the factory and lunch.
had a look around the workshops where around 10 WRC cars where being built at a cost of around 450/500k each !! then had a look around the malcolm wilson museum where i saw a few rare beasts.
After lunch it was off to the forest for a once in a life time passenger ride in the Focus WRC rally car driven by works drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and what can i say that was the best experience in my Life words can not descibe what it was like Fooking MENTAL is all i can say :s: :s: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After the ride and talking to all the WRC crew very friendly down to earth chaps it was time to go home left at 4.45pm for the 5 hour drive home.
What a day hope you enjoy the pics:thumbsup:

I think the back box has the same kind of material as you get inside a cat so get hot with the anti lag as said above. I know when I seen inside a subaru one it was. The back section on the focus is just like a big bit of 5inch pipe. Can remember lookn at one.
