Recently had a cleanup of my desktop/files etc.. run a few adware scans and virus scans too.

Anyway, since then, everytime i try to rename a file - image file, excell spreadsheet, word docs etc etc... it pops up with a warning

"If you change a filename extension it may become unusable"

Never done this before, what have i deleted/changed settings for?

Pain in the arse.

Make sure you keep the same extention on the file you're renaming!!

e.g. .JPG, .DOC, .XLS etc

 

sound slike you have unticked the "hide extensions for known file types " option in windows explorer, under tools, folder options, view, file types.
