Default VW Question

My mate has an 06 or 07 (can't remember) Golf GT Diesel.

Cut a long story short it has gone back for some work under warranty and they have decided it will need a new engine.

My mate has had a remap done. He wants to know, firstly, will they check the ECU at all? And also will they put a new ECU on with the new engine or not?

Thanks!

I know the vw/audi diagnostic machine can record boost pressures on a test drive. It depends on if the tech spots the increased boost pressure or not? If he does and they find out its been remapped, i dont know what the warranty implications are im afraid.

Well they took the head off, then decided to replace the engine under warranty, so I'm guessing that the fact it is remapped will not affect him.

It has had plenty of warranty work done before with the map.

Think he is more worried about loosing his ECU.

I'm pretty sure they will not pay out if you have had a remap. Can I ask what was up with the engine, and who remapped it?

Benni.

There is a counter in the ECU which logs the number of times its been flashed - Check with Stu.

Cheers

Don't know who mapped it but can find out.

Problem was it was leaking coolant into the engine somewhere. Its gone in, they have took head off, and say there is some "pitting". This is what my mate has said who to be fair knows not a lot about cars. It was deffo loosing coolant into the engine somewhere though. Not quite sure where this pitting is occouring.

If they were not going to do the work though, surely they wouldn't of took the head off for an inspection, and certainly they would not commence the work if there was an issue?

Highly unlikely they will care to be honest.

So long as it runs when they put the new engine in and all the lights go out. On a related note, a while ago we carried out a software update on a VW Golf GTi (24K6 for the other saddos out there! ) And of course we wiped the guys mapping upgrade. He kicked off, but Superchips said they'd redo it for free as apparently it happens quite a lot because the customer decides NOT to tell the dealership!

So if your car is in for a recall, for gawds sake mention the update.
