im buying a fq 300 version, i have never owened one before so i asked him if it states fq 300 on logbook and he said no, just not sure if its should tell you model fq 300 on logbook???.

he said theres a plaque inside the car, but thought anyone could put a plaque out of a fq 300 inside a normal evo just wondering how you tell a fq 300 version from a normal evo 7.

i have had both and fq is just a uk thing, anyone can wop a badge on but im sure a ralliart dealer or mitsubishi motors uk could tell you from the vin that the car is a pukka fq

import ?? but if you do hpi it make sure you can do the private plate and the norm,my mate was stung big time years ago after paying the indemnity at auction and they never checked all the plates it had been on.result . . . . totall loss.no money back or 4k all.do a proper check yourself if you can.only trying to help.

Auctions return money if a car isnt described as being on the v car and it is found to be on it.

You also dont need to check the private plate because the hpi is on the car and not the reg....

4kn ell this was early 90s,in fact it was a 90 cav sri and i know he payed the imdemity at stoke brs? auctions.anyway car was fooked.write off,bad quarter damage but they got out of it because when they checked it it was on irish plates but no other plate was checked.i dont know,but when it came back to g---onz it was fucked.he lost best part of 3 and a half g. saying all this piss,i have hpi reports for my saff with 3 different plates on so ????

chap looking for around 6.8k for his silver evo 7 fq 300 its a 2002, 56k on clock just needs back bumper filling and painting due to a crack.

is this a good price how much would u say this fq 300 is worth with bumper repaired do u think its a good buy at 6.8k with 56k on clock?



thinking about going for it just wanted to know what you guys think.

it was either this or a standard 01 on sti, but thought maybe this i could make a profit when i finally get bored and come to sell? however i dont know alot about them.

put full spec up on car pal

check and double check that everything works, listen for noises from rear diff when on full lock and going round a corner at any speed, check that it brakes straight and true and expecially wheel wobble, standard discs have a hard time on evo as they are very heavy cars, steering should be pin sharp as should the whole handling of the car, take a good look under the rear of that car check for any panel damage under the bumper and check for leaks and worn bushes, cv boot's around the rear diff.

make sure the engine is stone cold when you view the car, need to listen for tapping from the lifters, this should clear is there is any within 10-20 seconds at very most, obviously check all fluid levels, try the Aircon and leave it running for a good couple of mins when you engage the aircon the 2nd fan should run and the engine fan also these will cut in and out accordingly

The cars do run upto temperature very quickly and should be no more than half way up the gauge, while your there try the ACD button on the dash7 the intercooler spray get some1 to stand by front bumper and check it works.

check that the tyres are wearing evenly, if not the alignment could be out (professional setup can be had from around Ł75+ and is worth every penny)

don't be afraid to drive the car hard make sure all gear changes are smooth with no fuss or noise, the car will pull in 5th from 30mph no probs, check clutch slip also

check this link out from the MLR it will tell you most that you need to know, if you can take some1 along who knows the Evo well, there are alot to choose from so don't be drawn by the first you go to see

The Impreza is an import so should be a bit cheaper. But you fo get the DCCD with it and the box is stronger, insurance will be the only diff over a UK car. But at 40k and 5 years old, it's due a belt and it aint cheap.

I'd be tempted to say you wouldn't make a profit on either car with the market the way it is.

An Evo at those miles would be close to needing a build if it's not been pampered.

As someone has already said, the Evo looks too good to be true and I'd rather have a UK Scoob for to save hassle for that money.

yes the sti is a import so guess its not worth it? 7750 is the lowest hr will go on it.

Yeah same here, it's nearly 7 years old, 58k on the clock, needs a bumper repaired. In the current climate is Ł6,800 really too cheap??

i have seen late evos with 100k miles and they have not been knackered,i have seen evo 8's with a original clutch at 36k miles and i know lads who can fook a clutch in a evo road car in under 3600 miles, i quite like the subaru and if it does have the diff controller its a nice car but so is the evo, the evo is a rarer car.

its your choice but imo the evo is the better car technology wise, you can handbrake turn a evo 7 as the gb has a handbrake release on the 4wd,thats somthing not many people know about

The Evo seems cheap but as said above a lot check on them, you'll usually find they are cheap for a reason.. then again it's hard selling an Evo or Impreza at the moment so you never know.

58k miles is no bother for those engines IMO (if looked after)

I looked at a really cheap evo 7 a while ago and it was an absolute dog (really bad total respray, black oil, history was almost no existant) looked ok in pics and was described somewhat differently.

Personally, I'd be wary due to the mileage. As said already, they can be good for 100k but I'd rather have one that's been built if I was paying decent money for a car coming up to 60k. After all, a 2litre pushing out 300bhp is going to be stressed.

2001 WRX looks OK. Got to wonder why he face-lifted the car? Also, it says it's had a new box, make sure it's the 6spd as the 5spd fitted to the WRX is chocolate.

Garbage.

Mines on 54k miles now, standard clutch lasted 44k miles, till the day I did 10 launches in a row and it started slipping for my stupidity.

I now have a Ł1000 Exedy twin plate and have done 50+ full bore launches so far with no dramas. Standard clutches work fine if not abused though...

Mine is 320bhp, has been since 10k miles old.

For the last 14k miles and 1 year I've had it I've absolutely wrung the neck of it, it gets used near entirely for track days (going to, doing and driving home from), and 3 trips to the Ring.

Bar the clutch which was my own fault, the only problem it has had was a the driver's side track rod end - Ł25 and the problem was fixed.

I'd happily buy that Evo mentioned above, but I would deffo take someone who knows Evos with me if I were you, there's a lot that needs to be checked with these cars - and an owner will know the way round it easily.

If it's anywhere South West ish, I'd happily look over it for you if it helps.

do u guys think this fq 330 with 56000 on a 02 is worth it for 6850 ? how much do u think its worth once bumpers repaired?

hope someone can advize as unsure whever its a good buy or not.

SiB and Youth - I take back what I said in light of better knowledge.

I'm thinking about the numerous owners I've known who have had to do rebuilds around the 60-70k mark on Imprezas and Evos - albeit probably due to poor maintenance and poor set up.

With this car, you'd never know how well it's been looked after until you check it out.

Youth - I drive an Impreza V4 STi Type R (a car famed for it's 2l 300bhp unit lasting approx 65k miles). It's on 78k no and was re-built at 68k.

If i was you mate i'd concentrate on buying a car for yourself and not worrying about selling it on after.
You will not know how much profit you will make by selling it on until you have bought it and found out all the problems with it.
In my opinion i would go for an Evo over a Scooby any day but that is just personal preference.
Just one thing that would put me off is the 7 owners. The car is almost 7 years old itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was going to buy it for myself for a while till i get bored.

i did want a imprezza but would have a evo at right price, just thought it was a good buy at 6850 as i know someone that works at a car body place so wouldent cost me much for bumper repairs.

however i dont want to buy it be be stuck with it if you know what i mean when i get bored. just wanted to know a rough price it was worth repaired with 56k - 58k on clock as dont know much about them.

that evo looks v.cheap,, i'd say it would sell quick at 8k if you wanted out of it,,, i sold a 52plate evo v11 fq300 about 5months ago for 13.5k but that was much better spec than the one pictured
