When getting near 400 bhp you need to mod it by putting it in the bin and get a 4x4 version, job done

Easier to put a 4x4 inlet on, or small turbo.

But why go the all the expense when you could just get a 4x4 one easily enough to do the job

well basically nobody fucks about with the 2wd ones when they reach the limit, they spend Ł30 ish on a 4x4 one (which has a better elbow design) and throw the 2wd one away as they fit fine....

The only one i've seen lately with a modded elbow was a rs500 one which was modded to even out flow....

Basically change it for a 4x4 one when you need to as its not worth the bother messing with a 3wd one.

Cheers

But he's asking about how to mod a 2wd one, not "how to buy a better inlet and bolt that on"

But surely if you wanted to mod a 2wd it would only be to better it when all you need to do is buy a 4x4...........or is it me

ok fair enough, but why want to learn bout something thats not worth doing?

I'm sure any engineering shop would charge more than the cost of a 4x4 plenum to do any work.

i merely wish to know,im not DEFINITELY gonna do it!
if we always just things like swap parts then we would never have tuned a single cosworth!we would just buy faster cars!its just something i want to look at as i have a 2wd inlet and may give it to someone to do rather than try find a decent 4wd inlet.its only a question.5 years ago people said it was pointless trying to get more power than a touring car 500bhp setup,it was impossible etc....now look at the scene, things move on,people look at different ways of doing things, its just what i get interested in,looking at things, figuring them out etc...

less than 400.....

ive seen 4x4s with modified necks....but never a 2wd, as said people dont bother, and the 2wd, wouldnt be easy to mod because of the bolt on bit

I'm not saying that it's not a good idea to learn how to modify inlets.....thats well worth the time and effort....Just not on a 2wd cossie inlet as its a no brainer tuning decision been made 1000 times over, all in favour of a different manifold.

Trust me mate...once you have fucked about with the 2wd and potentially fuck it up or cause inequal port flow you will wish you just swapped the cover

sorry to be no help here but everyone i asked about this gave the same answer as most.escort or 4x4 plenum.simple mod and use an ec4 throttle body which i was told needs slight modification and will work at 400.thats my aim.

James was that flywheel or @ the wheels figure, surely there are loads of 2wd cossies with more than 370 bhp with 2wd setup, my old setup max the green injectors made 377 bhp.

well im useing a t34.63 and had to dial more fuel in when i upgraded from a spaced 4x4 to a swedish then saying that i upgraded to the spaced 4x4 from a 2wd and had to dail fuel in so yes you will gain BUT get the fueling checked when changing inlets as it might get very lean at certain points on the map , and please dont just think oh ill turn the fpr up as it will more than likely richen the whole map up then itll just either bore wash or just loose power or both

Well i spoke to a very well respected tuner last week who told me that its not the elbow that is the restrictive part of a 2wd inlet manifold but the distance between the edge of the trumpets and the inner edge of the plenum cover.
I was told that a 10mm spacer would increase the flow by a lot although a 4x4 inlet is much better as standard.
