Default wireless network connecting problems

i've got the connection connected

it's sending packet data

it's reciving packet data

but it's not connecting to the internet because it's still at the "acquiring network address" stage

and there are 2 lines for the ip address which say 0.0.0.0 and 0.0.0.0

whats wrong?

i've put all the details i need in, i've got the connection, why won't it connect?

i can't even put in a manual ip address into the bar anywhere but i can connect to next door neighbours laptop and see what he's got on his system

help

try this

click run and type services.msc

scroll down the list until you reach 'wireless zero configuration'

right click and go to properties

either click start or restart, which ever u see

and the startup type should be set as automatic

if that does work and ill have another think

Sounds like an encyrption issue. Make sure your wifi on the unit that doesnt work is compatable with the encryption of the router eg unit only supports wep and router is on wpa.

Id turn off the encyrption (on the router)for a minute, try to connect, if it works then try it on wep, then move higher to wpa etc.

good luck.

Did you do the age old reboot before trying anything else?

i.e. turn router off for 3 minutes, turn machine off, turn router on allow it to re-initialise then boot up machine.

dojj

click start, run, type 'cmd', type 'ipconfig'

make a note of your ip address, likely to be 192.168.1.1

if it is

type 'ping 192.168.1.1' or what ever the IP address is

do you get a reply?

Are you with SKY? You can get your Netgear router information from http://192.168.0.1/ , username ADMIN and password SKY. Don't know if you know already?
