What does Si B need to buy so that I can map his car and make it more economical on a run for him (power is ok, its just economy thats shite at the moment!)
What hardware does he need?
What software do we download?
Thanks in advance
(advance, get it? lol)

What you need is openport cable: http://tunertools.com/proddetail.asp...C-OpenPort1.3U
Ecuflash software for reflashingand modyfing maps: http://www.openecu.org/index.php?title=EcuFlash
Evoscan software for datalogging (and mony other things like actuator testing, bleeding the diffs etc): http://www.limitless.co.nz/
You may also want to read a bit on the openecu.org forums. One of the problems with Ecuflash is that it sometimes needs better definitions for particular ECU which can be found on those forums, sometimes particular maps may be notwhat they seem. (AFAIR boost control and knock control maps have wrong names often).
The above is true for Evos 7-9, Evo 10 is under development and previous ones cannot be reflashed this way I think (although I am unsure about Evo6).

Chip, i'm guessing the car is E7 or newer? which is what is needs to be.
The cables are cheaper from "limitless" in nz. They have the openport 1.3's on offer.

I'm loosely familiar with Ecuflash, there is a lot of info on this on the MLR and EvoM.net too.
My Ecutek map just needs a tweak really, but not sure if they lock the maps? Would be a pain, but not impossible to remap the whole thing from scratch I guess...
Just got to fit my Innovate WBand and get myself a decent EGT monitor too.

You can unlock Ecutek maps on Evo (not on Subaru).

As for unlocking the ECUtec map there is something on Evom about it, your going to loose your ECUtek licence, but i wouldn't worry about that, i can't see you going back to them.
There are a lot of new rom's kicking around which allow you to do a lot of the stuff Ecutec does.
Switchable maps. flat shift, als, etc etc.

Very very tempted to simply use Karl or Stu again as I have in the past with my Cossie live maps.
However Chip is a tad cheaper, and if I can just have a few minor tweaks to save a few quid here and there that is all I need. No need for a Ł200-Ł500 odd live map here.
It's done 13000 miles now in 1 year, at no more than 20 mpg, probably nearer 10-15 for much of it's thrashing.
Even if Chip does an average job, I stand to save a fortune!

IMO i would always use someone with vast amounts of knowledge who does it every day with results that speak for themselves over some one who has limited knowledge in mapping(no offence intented chip),as its always going to move from a quick tweek to can i go faster lol
Do people think that adjusting a map on a car is a simple as this post makes its seam????? honest question ??????? i dont care if i had the means to do mine (i could easily afford it) i really want it to be the best it could possibly be, i would pay someone who is a reputable mapper as i do,and the results always speak for themselves.
Each to there own IMO,Looks like people try to save money and have a bash themselves, but if you have spent a few pounds on the hardware why not have it the best it can be.
p.s im not slating the post just answering the question above.

Car drives mint already, no flat spots, nice and responsive etc.
Car makes reasonable power already.
The BIG fault though is that it is poor fuel economy on cruise on the motorway.
I bet that just by advancing the timing in literally a handful of cells, and leaning it out a touch in a handfull of cells, in the space of literally 2 minutes, I can add 5% at least to its fuel economy!
Im sure Stu or Karl could do far better, but they are running a business and so charge more than a cup of tea which is the value I place on my own time, lol
Si's spec will move on later on, this is just to allow him to be more econimical in the mean time.
