Doesn't that then limit your choice of broadband provider to cable or a mobile phone broadband service.

There is now way I could get the speeds I do with my ISP (Bethere) for the price I currently pay if I didn't have a BT line.

yep, but my broadbands with virgin, and seems the best deal about then and still, pay 22.99 a month for 20meg, tho it maybe faster than than now was meant to got to 50meg

and with a cable line you can then get some free premium tv

You need to check to see if your area has LLU, local loop unbundling.

It means Others can lease the line from BT and rent it to you, without you having to pay BT anything.
I'm with Bulldog, now PIPEX.

I work for open reach u can have your phone line with loads of poeple ie post office, carphone warehouse, opal talk talk etc as far as im aware there are only two companies who have there own network ie cable in ground an there bt and virgin.

because bt are so big offcom stepped in and capped bt's prices and made them rent lines out to people so if u have a phone line with anyone other than the two companies mentioned above u will have a bt line and openreach will maintain it BUT u will pay ure service provide ie talk talk NOT bt for the line hope this helps i have to be careful what i say

as said above. The line is owned by BT but you will have no contact with them as Talk Talk or whoever will lease the line from BT.
