Now im not normally one to do things like this but i feel i must. Not going to go into what it is etc etc, but if i report this item to ebay, and ebay remove it, will the 'seller' know that ive reported them or will he/she know that someones reported them, or will it just look like ebay has spotted it and removed it?

Ebay will just remove it if your complaint is upheld and the seller will not know that you reported the item.

Also, are sellers allowed to put 'dont buy the other ones listed on ebay' 'mine are better and the others are rubbish' blah blah blah.

Childish of me doing this, but needs must in this case.
