How do you get the gear knob off when taking out the gearbox ? Cant see a way of getting the leather gaiter off the stick to pass the stick out underneath or even out the top , especially as you cant see the bolts on the linkage to undo from the gearbox ?
Im taking the gearbox out of a roadcar and its doing my head in !!

 

Is it illumanated type?


If it is NOT !

Then simply put hand either side and pull up hard watch ya face though when it goes for a right hook!...

Simply located by a spring clip in the knob and a groove on the stick.

If it is i have not a clue

 

Tony all has to be done from under vehicle prop and exhaust is off i take it ? remove heat shield then you will see a pin that is in the back end of the box that attatches to the gear lever remove the spring clip and hopefully hey presto !.

Look at the gear lever where it meets the linkage underneath the car. There is a rod connected to it which goes to the gearbox, that rod has a shaft which goes through the bottom of the gear lever and is only held on by a spring clip. If you pop off the spring clip you can then release the rod and forget about the lever.
