Default Car Audio (Amplifier) Help...

Ive got a L7 12inch Kicker sub, but my amp packed up recently. Ive tried sourcing a decent cheap amp, but people want £130 for an amp 2nd hand that I can buy new for £200...

Has anyone got suggestions for a decent amp to run this speaker?

I don't want a cheap shyte amp, but I don't wanna pay £££'s. Ive got £100 to spend, but can increase this for the right amp (Not for people wanting top dollar or I will just buy a new for a bit more).

Thanks

These two are nearly in your budget.

find the rms of your sub, the amp really wants to be slighty highly than this figure, does not matter if its loads higher, but go lower and you will strat to clip the signal. Subs don't really give quality they make a boom so make of amp aint important imo.

RSSteve, Here's the only info I can find on the sub:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Kicker-L7-Subwoo...08281634r38210

Ive been told the Kicker KX600.1 is a very good amp for thesesubs, but everyone wants £200+ for them or has painted them green and still wants top dollar

Cheers AJ Im looking into spec on that amp

Hi fletch...unfortunately kicker dont do nice bass as you wanted in your previous reply lol...however do you know what voice coils are on the sub? is it a dual 4 or dual 2 ohm coil? this is important as it will dictate what amp is recommended for you...you can find out by looking at the back of the speaker

if you get me this little bit of info ill recommend some amps accordingly

L7s are fantastic subs that need a lot of power!

They are rated at 750RMS, and finding a decent amp capable of running a a decent RMS will be VERY hard for less than £200.

Any amp you use will be running at 100% the whole time, I'd bite the bullet and buy a decent Kicker amp that can run it happily, it will sound SO much better

BassBoy, Thanks for the input but I am not taking the sub out of the box and loosening the bolt holes.

XRT_Si, any recommendations mate??

Ive been offered a Rockford Fosgate 1051S, which has this spec:

265 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
525 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
1050 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
4-ohm stable in bridged mode
stereo or bridged mono output
Tri-Way capable
requires 4-gauge power and ground leads plus a 100-amp fuse and fuse holder wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
variable 50-250 Hz high-pass/low-pass crossover, 24 dB/ octave
TOPAZ noise-killing differential inputs eliminate 80% of ground loop noise between the head unit and the amp
NOMAD advanced protection circuitry monitors temperature, voltage, current and impedance, and provides "intelligent" shut-down protection without limiting system performance
TRANS ana circuit designs keep voltages low and signal paths simple in the pre-amp section, for minimum distortion and maximum musicality
MEHSA provides more efficient transfer of heat from MOSFET output devices to the heatsink for cooler operation
preamp outputs
Punch Bass boosts bass up to 18 dB at 45 Hz (wired remote control included for fingertip control)
17-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D
The connectors are normal rca inputs & then the normal speaker output (wire in connectors)

for £100. Looks like Im buying this unless someone tells me its shit

My mate had the same amp awhile back, very good!

Decent rating and its American, which means decent build and non-exaggerated bullshit power claims.

Defo get it imo! Be interested to know what you think of the sound quality difference, should be far superior! Have to let me know
