Default st170 engine questions?

as im looking at probally building a st170 engine up on throttle bodies to go in the escort now i thought id try finding out a bit more about them first, mainly in regards to the vvt- how it works? do i time the engine up the same as a normal zetec? does the cam sensor have to be use? as i was planning on using my old emerald loom. what will the standard rods rev to for n/a? cheers guys, any help or links would be much appreciated

i can't remember which mag had the write up about it as it was a few years back, but they said you cuold use the vvt thing from the inlet on the exhaust as well to gain an additinoal 10 brake by just doing a pulley swap

and i think the power engineering one in one of the mags as a long term tester with a blower on it packs quite a punch so they'd be the first port of call

AFAIK emerald cannot control VVT.

you'd be better off with a std ECU if you went that route anyway to be honest

as long as i can get good power i guess im not too bothered about not using the vvt, i just want throttle bodies on it and guessed the vvt would make it better but havnt got a clue about vvt lol

Multiply the time taken to map it by a factor of 10 if you want to do VVT.. just bear it in mind.

it's good. you want to keep it.

the STD ecu will be better than that shonky emerald anyway. it's not like you wont be able to run the ST170 on throttlebodies on EECV.

i think so anyway, will @ msd is your man for this i think.

whats made you decide you want to go ST170 now? don't you want the car to be quick?

I'd love to see how you'd achieve that.

MSD can map EECV I believe. I think throttle bodies wont be enough for you personally Paul.
