"All the cars had the same gearbox (apart from some of the RX cars that were changed to the Xtrac system), but a lot of the road cars did not have the second lever fitted to change the variable torque split (if it was not fitted I think it was permanently set to 37:63 front:rear). Some owners who have managed to find the parts have retrofitted the torque split lever . The 3 positions of the lever give 100% rear, 37:63 front:rear and 50:50 (i.e. centre diff locked, for icy conditions)."
"All the gearboxes were the same, even on the works rally cars - they had to be, as that's what the homologation rules stated (being a competition-spec gearbox means that it's a bit of a pig to drive at low speeds and before it has warmed up). The torque split lever was fitted to all 200 cars for the homologation inspection, but when the majority of the cars were subsequently rebuilt to be sold as road cars it was removed as it was felt it would get in the way (and would probably be rarely used under normal road driving). The buyers had the option to have it refitted at purchase however, and some have since had the parts refitted from new-old-stock spares (I recall it is just a lever and linkage, and the extra gaiter and knob)."

Xtrac did a 'gear kit' with several alternative ratios, also plate front and rear diffs and recast the diff housings all of which fitted the standard transmission (with modifications)
The torque split lever was locked into one position with an M6 nut and bolt through the lever and selector plate which is bolted to the side of the gear remote.
Ther is a section in the owners manual about unlocking the lever.
The lever does gets in the way on right hand drive cars but is often bent to a different angle to increase clearance, in some cases removed as already stated.

the very first xtrac box (the schanche/gartrac/xtrac mk3 escort) had that lever that could adjust the split,it was that box that pissed on audi's chips and put xtrac on the map, schanches rs200 was the first to use the xtrac box and martin was mikes best customer.
i'm surprised theres no rx reps about really, there was some cracking looking cars, who remembers gary bakers q8 livery and later the joe bloggs jeans livery,do joe bloggs still sell jeans lol, then the tork 909 one of thor holm, anyway i'd love to see a lhd rs200 rep built with a lhd rotton sierra cos running 16" period revolution rfx's with the evo ears and battle scars.
i used to see loads of rs200's,road cars and rally cars and rx cars too and most of them were not minters,a bloke i know who has a genuine one tucked away as a investment reckons its a pig to drive until you grab it by the scruff and the car comes alive abit like a motorcrosser i suppose.

That information is not quite correct, as I said before the RS200 evos had a 'dog' versions of the syncro box.
