HD TV! Help please :-)

HD TV! Help please :-)
I'm using a Panasonic Viera Plasma for gaming(downstairs) which after long spells of usage leaves the screen burned(ok maybe not burned but I can see images that ought not to be there, that have previously been displayed).
So I'm currently in the process of sorting out a spare bedroom for playing the PS3 and want to do away with the monitor I have for the PC at the same time.
I could do with some guidance as to what TV is going to do the job best,
features I'd like are....
LCD rather than Plasma.
Very good - PC Display
1080p for PS3.
Viewing distance will be 5 feet, so whatever size is optimal at this distance.
Is there anything else I need to consider?
also.
Video/HDMI senders?
Does anyone use a HDMI sender or simply a video sender to send SkyHD to another room? If so what unit are you using and how's the picture.
Advice much appreciated, please please dont get to techi on me though thanks.

orion crazy carl tbh I knew at the time of buying Plasma over LCD that LCD was better for gaming, I underestimated just how much gameing usage the TV would get. The TV is pefect for Films etc etc hence me keeping it and buying an LCD specificaly for games/PC. Just checked contrast and its as suggested for optimal viewing(good call thoiugh) , I'm sure its more time related
Jammy86 good tip cheers

Probably better with a 26-32" for a distance of five feet. At this distance, on big TV's you will notice the pixels/jaggies on a lot of games as they are only upscaled to 1080p and not true 1080p.
Be careful when buying a full hd TV as some accept a 1080p signal and then downscale it to 1080i/720p and some will only display a screen res of 1366 x 768 when using the pc input. This is "usually" the case with some of the cheaper brands.

Andy, 1080p is a marketing buzz word and the 1080 bit means the number of vertical lines the item can display. Most computer monitors have been 1080p for years. My 22" HP monitor runs at a native 1680x1050 and looks goog, If I change it to 1366x768 it looks awful- this would look even worse on a bigger TV and would kill your eyes.

If your going to run your pc through the tv check the svga support on the tv. Mines only 1024 x 768 so it looks like the below.
But I don't use it that much, and certainly not for films, the PS3 does that
Porn does look mint in HD

So does this mean that with say a 32inch screen because it cant display enough lines that it will end up with the picture in the shape of Dans(as above)??? as thats what I'm trying to avoid!

No your picture will be fine and fill the screen, the reason for shape of the picture above is down to the fact that the pc resolution being used of 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio which is being displayed on a 16:9 widescreen tv hence it has the black bars down the side.

Personally I think what you're asking is a bit of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
The higher contrast and better resistance to burn of an LCD, but a Plasma is quicker, less prone to "vapour trailing" and is generally a much better picture.
Theres no such thing as an "HDMI" sender it will no longer be 1080p by the time it gets to the second location, you will need an HDMI Distribution amp, and you cant really go much further than 15 metres with an HDMI cable unless you convert into another format and back. Which will probably cost more than your TV !!!
Personally I only recommend Pioneer Plasma to clients and I guess at a genuine 5ft you wouldn't want bigger than 42" - which is what I play on at around 5-6 feet and is just fine, if a little warm after a couple of hours !!!
Just my 2p

I think there is only two steps needed to get you what you want.
1. Check what your screen res your pc can display.
2. If buying over a 32" I would go for a TV that can display 1080p or 1920x1080(proper name) on both the HDMI channel and the PC input.

Bugger me !!
We use Gefen stuff all the time and I had never noticed they did this. Could be quite handy for some of the stuff we do although 10m isnt really much use in commercial environments.
Nice one, cheers.
